Losing his sister
When Roberto was just a baby, his sister, passed away. One night she was baking in the house, and all of a sudden flames went off catching her clothes on fire. She suffered 3rd degree burns on more than 90% of her skin, causing her death. -
Roberto saves an old mans life
Even though he had a fear of fire, at the age of 12 he had overcame that fear when he pulled a man from under a care that was burning. When he pulled that old man out from under the car the man was on fire. -
Santurce Cangrejeros
Roberto Signed with with the Puerto Rican winter league team the Santurce Cangrejeros. He made 40 dollars a week and they gave him and additional 400 dollars for signing with them -
Finally done with school
Roberto finished highschool at Julio Vizcarondo Highschool in 1952. His mom wanted him to go to school for engineering but Roberto knew that wasnt going to happen. He won regional competitions of throwing the javelin 190 ft!!! -
A talented player enters the draft
He was in new Jersey, and decided to enter the major league Draft. He got drafted by the pirates who he spent all his Seasons with. They chose him because of his talent. -
First of many world series
During 1960 Roberto Clemente helped lead his team to the World Series. The Pirates ended up beating the New york Yankees. Despite Robertos great play he finished 8th in the NL MVP voting. Roberto was not too happy with the results. -
Awards
Clemente won several awards in his professional career. His best season was in 1961, which was when he won his first Gold Glove award and his first batting title. With the batting title, he was the most effective batter in the MLB that season. He then went on to win 12 consecutive Gold Glove awards. -
Married the love of his life
On November 14, 1964, Roberto Clemente married Vera Clemente. Roberto found a special thing in Vera which he wanted to live the rest of his life with. They went on to have three kids, which names were Robert Jr., Enrique, and Luis Clemente. -
Nl's most valuable player award
In 1966, Roberto Clemente performed very well. His performance in this season was the result of a National League Most Valuable Player award. This award is given to the player that has the most talent and who works the hardest at the sport, which Clemente was. -
3,000 Hit Milestone
This day was the most memorable day of Roberto's life. He came up to bat, and hit a double of Jon Matlack This double was his 3,000 hit of his professional baseball career. This was also the last time he ever stepped up to the plate to hit. Acheiving this milestone was important because it has only been acheived 28 times in the history of MLB. -

In 1971, the Pittsburgh Pirates won the World Series. This occurred in Three Rivers Stadium in Downtown Pittsburgh. They won in game 7. this game was the best game in Pirates History. -
Died
Died on December 31, 1972 in San Juan Puerto Rico. He was 38 years old when he died. He died while trying to take supplies to Puerto Rico for the people because there poor. The plane had to much luggage and it made the plane crash. Everyone that was on that plane passed away. -
Inducted In to the Hall of Fame
In 1973, a decision was made by the officials of the MLB, to induct Clemente into the Hall of Fame. He was inducted on a vote into the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York. Clemente reached the Hall of Fame because of a successful career, and his skills and talents -
Number 21 is Retired
On Roberto Clemente's birthday his number was retired. His number was retired throughout the league. Also in the pirates stadium today they built a wall 21 feet in right field were he played. This event occurred because of Clemente's influential life, his impact on the sport of baseball, and his skill level, and his drive to be good.
