He knew how to make simple microscopes which today would be considered magnifying classes. He found by scraping his teeth that there are very little living animalcules. He was also one of the first people to observe and record microbes.

1839/ He studied animals, he agreed with schleiden that plants had cells but he also figured out not only plants have cells but animals haves cells two. Together they they came up with the cell theory. The cell theory is that all living organisms are made up of cells.
