    During the 1910s,20s, and 30s, thousands of African Americans migrated from the south to the Northern cities to find work and a new life.

    In order to limit the influx of immigrants from 'undesirable' countries, the Emergency Immigration Act was put in place to slow down the Asians and Europeans flooding into America.

    Roaring Twenties

    The Roaring twenties began when the middle class began to rise up, and consumer buying rose. People bought cars, washing machines, and went to department stories. If they did not have the money they could get credit. Production exploded and buying did also. The twenties was about household luxury, but all of these things left unchecked would lead to big trouble for America.

    Harding becomes president

    Warren Harding wins the presidential election of 1920 against Democrat James Cox. Harding died on August 2, 1923, and his VP Calvin Coolidge became president for the remaining time of the term.

    Radios and Films

    KDKA was the first commercial radio company and in 1927, the first federal radio station was created to broadcast news across the nation. Films were also rising in popularity, the first talking movie was made in 1926. Consumer buying increased exponentially during the twenties, including the growth of magazines.

    Calvin Coolidge becomes President

    Coolidge becomes the president of the U.S. after the death of Harding in 1923. Coolidge finished the term and then won the next election.
  • Scopes 'Monkey' Trial

    The Scopes trial of 1925, was the trial of a man who had taught evolution in his class in Tennessee. At this time there was a law that said evolution could not be taught in schools, and people wanted to test the constitutionality of this law, so Scopes volunteered to be the one to test it. The trail last from July 10-21, and the verdict was guilty, but it put questions and doubts into peoples minds.

    Herbert Hoover wins the election of 1928 against Alfred Smith.

    The Great Depression

    The Great Depression began with the stock market crash of 1929, but it had many of causes. The roaring twenties left the country in huge debt, the after effects of World War One and unpaid loans for Europe, left America in a pit of debt bigger than they realized. The depression had ups and downs, but the worst of it was over by 1934. America did not fully come out of the Depression until the beginning of World War Two in 1939.

    Hoover's only contribution to helping the depression end was the Reconstruction Finance Corp, which gave loans to railroads, banks, and businesses, but loans were given sparingly.

    Franklin D. Roosevelt becomes President

    Franklin D. Roosevelt won the election of 1932 against Herbert Hoover. FDR stays president until his death in 1945, when his VP Harry Truman became President
  • FDR's First New Deal

    FDR had many plans for when he became president, so once he won the position he started the New Deal which was meant to bring up the stock market, create jobs, get people money to live, help veterans and retired/elderly people

    Dust Bowl

    The Dust bowl lasted through much of the 1930s. It was the result of overworked soil and drought. The wind would pick up the top soil and blow it thousands of miles away. Hundreds of people migrated away from the great plains because of this.
  • Germany invades Poland

    Even though they agreed not too, Hitler gave the order for troops to invade Poland which caused France and Britain to declare war, starting WWII

    World War Two

    The second World War started once again in Europe when Germany invaded Poland in September of 1939. After many German advances and battles, the Americans entered the war on December 8th of 1941. America did not declare war on Germany, but Japan after the bombing of Pearl Harbor by the Japanese on December 7. After America declared war on Japan, Germany declared war on America since Japan and Germany were allies. The war with Germany ended May 7, 1945, the war with Japan ended August 14, 1945
  • Germany invades Soviet Union

    In a show of confidence, Hitler sent troops to invade Soviet Union in hopes to control it before winter set in. This was the beginning of Hitler's downfall because the Soviet Union refused to let the Germans win.
  • America Declares war on Japan

    After the bombing of Pearl Harbor, America declares war on Japan
