    Magna Carta

    Magna Carta
    The magna carta was the first written constitution in European history. The Magna Carta was the signed by King John, and signed in England. The rights promise were separation of state and church, the kings power restricted, and taxes restricted. This is a picture of the actual document.

    The purpose of this document was to govern the people when they landed at Plymouth Rock. This is a picture of the actual document.
  • Petition of Rights

    Petition of Rights
    The petition of rights was signed by King Charles the first. It severely limited the kings power by no longer allowing: the King to collect taxes without parliments consent, imprisiment without a just cause, Troops within a persons house with out permission, or declare martial law unless the country was at war.   • English Bill of Rights

    English Bill of Rights
    This was created to set clear limits on what a ruler could and couldnt do. King william and mary were involved in signing. The monarchs do not have absolite authority, The monarch must have Parlimemts consent to suspend laws, levy taxes, or maintain an army. The monarch could not interfere with parliamentary elections and debates. The people have the right to a speedy and fair trial, and should not be subject to cruel and unusual punishments.     As a response to the French attacks. This plan was suggested by Ben Franklin, but never happened because it gave too much power to an assembly made up of representatives from the 13 colonies. Ben Franklin also drew a popular cartoon named Join or Die. Here is an image of that very cartoon.

    The french and the indians fought the britsh colonies,
    One of the major battles was the Battle of Quebec

  • King George III takes power

    King George III takes power
    He didnt agree with the way they were governed. He said that the british had to leave the land that was won by the France, Here is an image of King George III himself.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    Documents, Newspaper, Magazines, and other paper products were taxed. Colonial leaders called it a violation of their rights. Here is one of the earliest stamps to make it to America.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    -5 people died, while were wounded..
    -The masacre itself started when the troops were overwhelming the city of Boston and were unwelcome.
    -The acts being enforced that ld to this tragedy were the Towshend Act.
  • Boston Tea Party

    -The Sons of LIberty dumped 342 chests of British tea into the Boston Harbour.
    -The British passed the Intolerable Acts which closed the Boston ports and destroyed the Massachussets government.

    The major personalities were Patrick Henry, John Adams, and James Madison
    Boycotting Birtish goods was established and it took place in Philidelphia PA
  • The Intolerable Acts

    The incident of the Boston Tea Party was the root cause of these acts. The provisions of these acts included the closing of the Boston Harbour and Massachussets can not govern itself.
  • Lexington and Concord

    The result of this conflict were outbreak of armed conflict between US and GB
    The major generals involved were Colonel Smith and General Barret
    Paul Revere uttered the famous words " The British are coming"
  • Second Continental Congress

    Took place in Philidelphia PA
    The ideas of the army and the navy came about.
    The colonial leaders involved were Ben Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, and John Hancock,
  • Articles of Confederation

    The first president under the articles was John Hanson. The three successes were foreign relations, the land ordinance of 1785 and the Northwest ordianance. The three failures were raising and maintaining a military, money, and raising taxes.
  • Declaration of Independence

    Declaration of Independence
    Thomas Jefferson wrote it.
    The 3 main parts are:
    to protect human rights, right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
    People have a right to revolt against the government.

    Democratic government exist for the people.

  • Treaty of Paris

    Ben Franklin, John Jay, Henry Laurens, and John Adams represented the US.
    Anywhere between the Mississippi and the Appalachin Mountains became US territory.
    The British finnaly recognized the Declaration of Independence.
  • Constitutional Convention

    The original purpose was to address the problems of the weak central government. At the Annapolis Convention, there was a meeting stating that the Constitutional Convention would soon take place.
