  • Fugitive Slave Law

    This federal law allowed capturing slaves and returning them within the territory of the United States. All states must forbid slavery.

    A convention held bye California to forbade slavery. They wanted to be apart of the fugitive slave law.

    Settlers wanted to move to Nebraska, but that could not because Nebraska had to hold a claim on their land.
  • Bleeding Kansas 1856

    Series of violent political confrontations in the U.S. Involving pro and anti -slavery. On May 21st ruffians looted the town in repsonse, John Brown orchestrated the murder several days later.
  • Beating of Senator Charles Sumner 1856

    On this day, a member from the House Of Representatives entered the Senete chamber and beat a senator uncouncious.

    The supreme court issues a decision in the dred Scott case assuming the right for slave owners to take there slave western territories
  • Harpers Ferry 1859

    John Brown started a raid with 21 men to defeat the U.S. Marines. Brown asked Harriet Tubman and Frederick Douglas to go with him but Tubman was ill.
