    The French and Indian War was won by the British due to the larger Army/Navy and more money to fund the war.
    -Huge war debt
    -British military was now weak
    -enforced colonial laws to pay back war debts.
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    The Sugar Act was enforced in 1764. An act similar to this was put into place many years before, but this act was actually enforced. The goal of this act was to reduce smuggling. This also issued the Writs of Assistance which allowed British soldiers to search property to prevent more smuggling.
    -Reduced smuggling
    -Heavy protests
    -Colonists boycotted British goods
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    The Stamp Act was created in 1765 which placed a direct tax (paid separate from item) on all printed goods.
    -Sons/Daughters of Liberty formed
    -Stamp Act congress formed
    -Colonists boycotted printed goods
    -Violent protests exerted
    -Store owners signed a Non-Importation agreement
    -Less people gradutated due to having to pay for diplomats
  • Townshend Act

    Townshend Act
    The Townshend Act was placed in 1766. It was another attempt by the Britsh rule to enforce rules and to pay back war debt. This act put taxes on glass, paint, and tea. Tea is what made the colonist mad because they bought tea very often. After four years, the Townshend Act was repealed. -Boycott tea
    -Blacklist (shun) merchants who bought tea from the British
    -Boston Massacre
  • Quartering Act

    Quartering Act
    The Quartering Act was put into place in 1766. This required Americans to house and feed British soldiers. The colonist had to basically take care of the soldiers. This was emplaced to allow the British soldiers to 'spy' on the Americans.
    -Violate people's rights
    -The colonist had to use their own belongings (food, water, etc.) to house the soldiers.

    Boston Massacre
    The Boston Massacre is a deadly battle between British Soldiers and American colonists. This resulted in deaths of five colonists.

    -Lead to Revolutionary war
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
    The Tea Act was another act that taxed tea in 1773. This was taxed again due to the British East India Company a monopoly to avoid bankrupt.
    -Boston Tea Party
    -Sons/Daughters of Liberty became powerful
    -$1-3 million lost from the tea
  • Intolerable Acts

    Intolerable Acts
    The Intolerable Acts consisted of five acts that were put in place by King George III. (Boston Port Act, Massachusetts Government Act, Justice Act, Quartering Act, Quebec Act)
    -These acts caused isolation towards Boston.
    -Boston looses money
    -Merchants refuse to boycott
  • First Continental Congress

    First Continental Congress
    The First Continental Congress was because of the Intolerable Acts. Colonists were confused on what their rights were an how should they defend them.
    -The Committees of Correspondence enforced their own rules. Colonist became blacklisted if they went against their rules.

  • Lexington and Concord

    Lexington and Concord
    Lexington and Concord is known as a "Shot Heard Round the World". Paul Revere let the Americans know which allowed them to prepare. They hid all their cannons to prevent the British from seizing them.
    -Americans were more prepared than the Britians
    -Three British casualties per one American casualty
