    Benjamin Franklin, a patriot, was one of America's founding fathers. His scientific discoveries helped in the Enlightenment as well as the time of the Revolution. He died on April 17, 1790.
  • George Washington

    George Washington
    George Washington was a patriot, who was the commmander-in-Chief of the Contential Army. Being commander meant fighting in battles such as the Battle of Saratoga and the Battle of Yorktown. He died December 14, 1799.
  • Paul Revere

    Paul Revere
    Paul Revere is a patriot who is most famous for alerting the Colonial militia that the British forces were approaching right before the battles of Lexington and Concord. He is also the man who created the reknown depiction of the Boston Massacre. He died on May 10, 1818.
  • John Hancock

    John Hancock
    John Hancock was a patriot who was famous for his lavish signature on the Declaration of Independence because he was the man who signed first. He, also, bacame Massachusetts's govenor after the signing of the Declaration of Independence. He died October 8, 1793.
  • Thomas Jefferson

    Thomas Jefferson was a patriot in the time of the American Revolution. He is one of America's founding fathers, too. As well as, the prime author of the Declaration of Independence. He died July 4, 1826.
  • Sugar Act

    This act, also known as the American Revenue Act, was placed by Paliment that taxed the colonists on their sugar. The colonists were growing unhappy with the amount of taxes and this act helped the growing movement towards the Revolution.

    This new tax, issued by British Parliment, required all American colonists to pay a tax on all printed paper. The colonists were unhappy with being taxed and not having any say in the matters, so it contributed to the growing movement of the revolution.

    The Sons of Liberty were an organization of residents living in the colonies. This secret society was formed in order protect the colonial rights and take it to the streets against the British. The British were not in favor of this and became angered.
  • Townshend Acts

    This was a series of acts placed by the British Parliment. These acts placed taxes on glass, oil, paint, and tea. Yet again, the amount of taxes were angering the colonists and they wished to be free of it.

    An incident in which British forces killed five colonists in the American colonies. Tensions were already high between the colonists and the British, and Paul Revere's depiction of what happened sent the tensions sky-rocketing.

    This event happened because the colonists did not want to pay taxes that Parliment placed on British tea. The Sons of Liberty disguised themselves as Indians, went aboard 3 British ships, and dumped nearly 350 chests of tea. This made the British angry and the Revolutionary War was on its way.

    British Parliment passed these series of laws in response to the Boston Tea Party. They were intended to punidh the colonists for their actions. The colonists grew more angry with Britain and wanted war.

    These battles were the first military engagements of the Revolutionary War.They were fought in the Province of Massachusetts Bay. The Americans, also known as the Patriots, won these battles. It is important because this helped lead into the start of the Revolutionary War.

    This battle took place around Breed's Hill during the time Boston was being sieged in the beginning of the Revolutionary War. The British forces, ended up defeating the Americans.
  • Declaration of Independence

    This document, signed in Philadelphia, stated that the 13 colonies were now independent, sovereign states seperate from Great Britain. This angered Great Britain and the war was now in full swing at this time.
  • Battle of Trenton

    This battle occured the day after Christmas and right after General George Washington and his troops made the icy trip crossing the Delaware River. Due to the element of surprise, the Americans ended up winning. This victory sparked a new hope in the colonies.

    This battle took place in Philadelphia. Sadly, the British forces won. Although it was a lost battle, Washington was able to claim that his men were still in good spirits and ready to continue to fight.

    This battle, fought in New York, is considered to be the turning point in the war. The Americans won and fuel was added to their fire because they now had regained confidence.
  • Battle of King's Mountain

    This was a battle fought between the Loyalists and the Patriots in the southern campaign, near South Carolina. The surprising victory over the Loyalists helped to boost the confidence of the Patriots.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    Battle of Yorktown
    The Americans and the French come together at Yorktown, Virginia and cause the British forces to surrender. This was the last major war battle of the Revolutionary War.
