  • Major H. C Denison

    A Ridley student who played in the Cadet Band and greeted the King and Queen on their visit to St. Catharines. He was the guard of honor. On June 1941 he was ranked the 2nd lutenant in the royal Winnipeg Rifles. On June 6, 1944, he became captain and sailed to Normanday but his ship sank. He was then rescued and was placed in france. AFter 1945, he was given the Distinguished Service Order award after participating in significant battles. On March 30, 1945 he died in the battle of Emmerich.
  • Edgar- School Prefect

    He was on duty a lot in his house, he was missing or presumed dead as a result of operations over Europe.
  • Ridley 1929

    (month and day unknwn) From the photograph which was taken in 1929 and comparing it with the photo in 1932, there was a major loss of students (almost half the size). In 1929 (known as the roaring 20s) the parents oculd afford to send their kids to a boarding school meaning ridley was populated. In 1932, during the great depression, there were hardly any sutdents.
  • The Red Cross Project

    Masters of Loer School came up with a scheme where the Lower School could aid the soldiers over sea. The suggestions were mostly objects to entertain the soldiers such as checker boards, cribbage boards, etc... Tables were made for the sick and wounded and book rests for use in hospitals. It took place every Tuesday noght from 6:30 to 8:30. Everyone had their own job to help the soldiers overseas.
  • Bob Morrow

    Joined the RCAF in 1939. Recieved his wings and was posted as the pilot officer in 1940, while flying a hurricane he was credited with the destruction of several enemy air craft. For his work he was rewarded by promotion to the rank of squadron leader. He is now leading an all Canadian hurricane bomber squadron. He was outstanding for his bravery while leading his squadron of hurricane bombers in a sweep over the channel and occupied France.
  • Before Christmas

    President George H. Gooderham died 3 days before Christmas. Ridley has only been in existence for more than 50 years.
  • Lutenent John Counsell

    Lutenent John Counsell (old ridlean) recieved the militaitry cross from the governor general from the Earl of athlone for his bravery in the battle of Dieppe. Princess Alice, wife of the governer general, attended the ceremony.
  • Prefects v.s Duty Seniors

    The dictators/prefects of the school met their downfall when they were soundly beaten by the duty seniors in their annual hockey game. The final score was 12-3.
  • The Blackout

    Ridley had its second blackout, the first one was on October 20, 1942. The boys were split into different roles, the junior boys were messangesrs and stretcher bearers, the senior boys were wardens and asstant wardens. They had to cover all the lights around the school, and managed to get all of them covered. Eventually they were able to suvive the blackout and because of this experience they are able to be ready for a airraid.
  • Dick Schmon

    (month and day unknown) Dick Schmon was a lowerschool graduate in 1930 and an upper school graduate in 1939. He was awarded an honerary saber, given by Brigader General Kennith Cramer. The schmon health centre was dedicated to Dick Shmon.
  • The Cadets Squadron

    The cadets were more active back then, most parades had rifle and foot drill. The band had to practice 3 times a week since the begininning of the term. The officers had been taking sword drill twice a week. There was the first aid, a new addition to the squadron. Ridley used to have a firing range.
  • Sinks U-Boat

    Survivors of a torpedod Allied merchant man had told a story of how the crew of a canadian corvette with lutenant Jck Moles (O.R) ended the persuit of a sea going Nazi U-Boat.
  • Sports, Parades, and Cadets

    During the war sports, parades, and cadets still went on. Cadet leaders included- T. F. Shaw and Seargent Heming.
  • The Assualt-at-Arms

    Friday evening the annual Assualt-at-Arms was held in the gymnasium starting at 8. The performance was known to be the most impressive one ever and the guest were highly pleased. Captain Iggulden was incharge of the smooth manner which the programme was presented in. Many squads formed up to display their talents.
  • Nazis

    Many Nazis could possibly escape by using plastic sugery and name changing. Four million of multiple European nationalities were murdered by the Germans in Poland in the Oswicim. A broadcast theat germany surrendered unconditionally.
  • Captain Iggulden Recieved a Medal

    In 1945, Captain Iggulden recieved a 25 year service medal. (Exact date unknown). Mid 1942 his son Andy who was a ordinant staff sargent, was captured in singapore and held in a Japanese POW camp. After 2 years Captain Iggulden had recieved news that his son was captured. A year and a half later, his son was released and sent to an Alied hospital.
