At the age of 16 he had 67 national amateur titles.

In 1996 he concluded a record setting run in the amateur ranks by capturing his ninth AMA Amateur Championship. At the prestigious Loretta Lynn's Dude Ranch. He turned pro this year too.

In 1997 he earned a few Eastern Region 125 Supercross race wins. He also dominated the 125 National Motocross Championship

In 1999 he moved up to the 250 supercross and was a top contender.

In 2008 Ricky signed on a NASCAR racing team. Ricky finished 6 in the series and he was voted most popular driver.
