Nixon's career took a lead in the direction of presidency in 1952, when he was a prominent figure in speaking at the Republican Party's yearly fundraising event in New York. From this event he obtained the idea he could be in the lead of the executive office. -

January 20, 1969 Nixon gives inaugural speech. Nixon proceeded to win a second election the following term, but does not last the entire duration. -
Watergate
The Watergate scandal is what many people think of when they think Nixon. This was a group of republicans attempting to spy on a democratic meeting in order to assure victory in the upcoming election. Many think Nixon had a hand in this, however we still do not know to this day. -

President Nixon resigned from office in 1974, claiming that him being in office would be a detriment to the american government, so he would step down and let his vice president take his place. -

Afterwords
After he left office, the new president (Ford) pardoned Nixon of all crimes while he was in office. This simplified the matter so that whether or not Nixon committed crimes at Watergate, it did not matter anymore.
