Born
Rich Froning was born on July 21st, 1987 in Romeo Michigan. When he turned five years-old his father got a job promotion to work at a TRW Automotive Plant in Cookeville Tennessee. The Fronings bought a home and 10-acres of land in Cookeville. They also have a few barns and a small pond on their property (Froning, Rich). Cover Image of Time Line: (Rich Froning Headshot) -
High School (2001-2005)
Froning decided not to play football his first two year of high school because he wanted to focus on his baseball career. His ultimate goal was to make it to the major leauges as middle infielder.He resumed football his junior year because he wanted to stay active since he began to dislike baseball due to trouble getting along with the new coach his sophomore year.His football career was short-lived due to a shoulder injury and he eventually needed surgery to repair it (cont.) -
High School (2001-2005) cont.
Froning decided to put the shoulder sugery off becasue he did not want to miss crucial recrituing time for baseball. Another new coach, Butch Chaffin, came to Cookeville High School and Forning really liked him. Froning gives Chaffin credit for helping him get to where he is today becuase of how he pushed him in high school (Froning, Rich). -
Walters State- College (2005)
With the help of Chaffin, Froning's High School Baseball coach, he got recruited to play baseball for Walters State. Walters State was a junior college about three hours away from Cookeville. Unfortuanately, Froning dropped out after two-months becasue he was misrable there (Froning, Rich).

Tennessee Tech University (2006-2009)
Froning enrolled in the student-firefighter program at Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville, Tenn. As a part of the program he would be an employee of the Cookeville Fire Department and they would pay for his schooling at TTU. He graduated in 2009 with a degree in Exercise Science (Froning, Rich). -
Introduced to CrossFit (2009)
Chip Pugh, one of Froning's Exercise Science teachers and the TTU Head Strength and Conditioning Coach, introduced Froning to CrossFit. He tried a few workouts and was hooked (Froning, Rich) (CrossFit, Inc. Rich Froning: Day at the Office.) -
Power Fitness Gym
Froning and his cousin Darren Hunsucker opened a gym called Power Fitness Gym. While they couldn't teach official CrossFit classes becuase they were not a paying affiliate of the company, the workouts they assigned mimicked classic CrossFit workouts (Froning, Rich) -
First Appearence at The CrossFit Games
After taking a chance and competing in the first two preliminary rounds to reach The Games. Rich Froning who was barely a year into CrossFit placed 2nd at his first appearence and The CrossFit Games (Froning. Rich). -
Married Hillary Masters
After being set up by a family friend in 2009 (before Froning had begun CrossFitting), Hillary and Rich Froning married just a few weeks before Froning was to make a second trip to The CrossFit Games (Froning, Rich). Hillary does not CrossFit. When asked about his wife, in a video Froning says that "She’s good. She’s good for me. (cont.) -

Keeps me level-headed that’s for sure.Very supportive of what I do, but doesn’t care anything about it. Which is good though, you know? ‘Cause then I don’t have to worry about how well I do for her. Like all she cares about is if I’m safe.”

Opened CrossFit Mayhem
In December 2012, Froning opened his own CrossFit Affiliate, CrossFit Mayhem (Froning, Rich). The entire gym si furnished by one of the biggest compaines in CrossFit and also one of Froning's sponsors, Rogue Fitness (WCTE TV). -
Lakelyn Ann Froning
Froning and his wife adopted their first child, Lakelyn Ann Froning. She was born on July 7th, 2014, just a few weeks before Froning was to compete in his final CrossFit Games (Froning, Hillary). -
Wins The 2014 Reebok CrossFit Games
After announcing his retirement from individual competition so he could focus on being a husband and a father, Froning won his 4th consecutive CrossFit Game. Making him the "Fittest Man on Earth" (CrossFit, Inc. "CrossFit Games")
