  • Thirty Year's War

    Thirty Year's War
    In Germany The Thirty Years War started because of a religious civil war.

    It started as a religious war and spread into an international political war when catholic France too up to side with the Protestants. The war ended in 1648.
    The result of this event was the Terms of the Peach of Westphalia. This brought an end to a war that lasted 30 years.

  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    The Stamp Act of 1765 was the first internal tax levied directly on American colonists by the British Parliament. It imposed a tax on all paper documents in the colonies. The British Empire were deep in debt from the Seven Years' War. Parliament passed the Stamp Act on March 22, 1765. British Parliament passed the Stamp Act to help make up their finances after the costly Seven Years’ War with France. See document for rest and citation.
  • English Bill of Rights

    English Bill of Rights
    It was an act signed into law in 1689 by William III and Mary II. The bill outlined civil rights. It gave Parliament power over the monarchy. In 1701, the English Bill of Rights was supplemented by England’s Act of Settlement. It was essentially designed to ensure Protestant succession to the throne. Without the English Bill of Rights, the role of the monarchy would be so much different.

  • War of the Austrian Succession

    War of the Austrian Succession
    The War of the Austrian Succession went on from 1740 to 1748. France unsuccessfully supported the dubious claims of Bavaria, Saxony, and Spain. They supported the claim of Charles Albert, elector of Bavaria, to the imperial crown, all with the overall aim of crippling or destroying Austria. Please see description in word document.   • American Revolution

    American Revolution
    The American Revolution is also known as the Revolutionary War. France entered the American Revolution on the side of the colonists in 1778. After French helped the Continental Army force the British surrendered in Yorktown, Virginia. The Americans had effectively won their independence, even though the fighting would not formally end until 1783. The French and Indian War, or Seven Years’ War brought new territories. The conflict lead to new and unpopular taxes.
  • Treaty of Paris

    Treaty of Paris
    The treaty of Paris in 1783 formally ended the American Revolutionary War. Peace negotiations between British and American began. The treaty was signed by Franklin Adams and Jay at the Hotel d’York in Paris. It was finalized on September 3, 1783. The treaty of Paris also established boundaries for the new nation. Even though the treaty of Paris ended the war for independence between America and Great Britain they still had tension over issues that weren’t discussed with the treaty.

    9.	French Revolution
    The French Revolution was an event in modern European history that began in 1789. It ended up ending in the late 1790s with the ascent of Napoleon Bonaparte. Around this time the French citizens redesigned their country’s political landscape. The French Revolution played a big role in shaping modern nations. It ended up showing the world the power inherent in the will of the people. See document for rest.
  • Storming of the Bastile

    Storming of the Bastile
    By the summer of 1789, France was moving quickly toward revolution. On July 12, royal authorities gave 250 barrels of gunpowder to the Bastille. At dawn on July 14, a great crowd armed with muskets, swords, and various weapons began to gather around the Bastille.

  • Tennis Court Oath

    Tennis Court Oath
    They took the historic Tennis Court Oath and they agreed not to disband until a new French constitution had been adopted. Louis XVI who conquered the French throne in 1774 proved unsuited to deal with the severe financial problems he had inherited from his grandfather, King Louis XV. The Third Estate declared itself the National Assembly. They took an oath to force a new constitution on the king.
  • Reign of Terror

    Reign of Terror
    The Reign of Terror was also named La Terreur in French. When the Civil War was happening, the Revolutionary government decided to make “terror” order on that day. The Terror had an economic side, and a religious side that was embodied in the program of de-Christianization. It was pursued by the followers of Jacques Hébert.
