    End of the French Indian War

    The French and British were all involved in the war. Because of the debt of the war, Britain started taxing colonists. This increased the tension between the colonists and British because colonists didn't like being taxed without representation.

    Townshend Acts

    The British passed four laws stating control over them. It set strict measures for tax collection in the colonies, and suspended a colonial representative assembly. The colonists didn't want taxation without representation and protested the act.
  • Boston Tea Party and Intolerable Acts

    Boston Tea Party and Intolerable Acts

    Britain taxed the colonists on tea to give advantage to British East India Company so colonists selling tea would go out go business. In retaliation, colonists dumped loads of tea from Boston into the Boston Harbor, resulting in Britain creating laws taking away self-government power. This then led colonists to the first Continental Congress and Declaration of Independence.

    The colonists wrote a list of grievances and unalienable rights to Britain called the Declaration of Independence. The Declaration of Independence declared war on Britain because of the unfair laws and treatment of the colonies.
  • Battle of Lexington and Concord

    Battle of Lexington and Concord

    Britain sends 700 troops to Concord to take hold of the colonists military supply. After learning about this, 70 minutemen from the colonies fought off the troops, and colonists in Concord force British troops to retreat. This starts the Revolutionary War.

    Battles of Trenton and Princeton

    Over the span of nine days, colonists and British troops fought in Princeton, New Jersey. Washington led the colony troops against Cornwallis British troops and won. This helped the people gain trust in Washington and help more people support the cause.

    About 19,900 colonist troops fought against 9,000 British troops in a battle in Virginia. It was the last major battle that ended the British war efforts against the colonies. Afterwards, it led to a peace treaty called the Treaty of Paris.
  • Treaty of Paris

    Treaty of Paris

    After the Battle of Yorktown, the British and colonies came to a peace negotiation and signed the Treaty of Paris. Signed by King George III's representatives, the treaty officially ended the American Revolution on September 3, 1783. The treaty mandated Britain to recognize the United States as an official nation independent fro Britain.
