In the winter of 1777 General George Washington led his starving and very cold group of around 12000 soldiers and 400 women and children into what is now Valley Forge and started building a city. It became the 4th largest city in the colonels with 1500 log huts and 2 miles of fortifications.

On September 28 1781 the Battle of Yorktown started between Washingtons forces and Lord Charles Cornwallis in Virginia. The war went on for about a month it ended October 19 1781 and the British surrendered.
