  • Treaty of Paris (1763)

    All of the French territory in North America was lost because the French lost the war. Ended an old war so to start a new one
  • Proclamation of 1763

    The line drawn by King George III along the Appalachian Mountains marking where settlers can't cross and go west onto British soil. This was important because it caused resentment among the colonists who wanted to own land past the appalachians.
  • Quartering Act

    A law passed by the British forcing all settlers to provide the British with any accomodations and give them housing. It also required the settlers to give them food. Angered the public so they would support the war.
  • Stamp Act

    An act passed by the British telling colonists that paper made products would have to be made from paper imported from Britain. Angered colonists with taxing with nothing that they get in return.
  • Townshend Acts

    The purpose of the Townshend Acts was to raise revenue in the colonies to pay the salaries of governors and judges so that they would be independent of colonial rule, to create a more effective means of enforcing compliance with trade regulations, to punish the province of New York for failing to comply with the 1765 Quartering Act. Also angered colonists because it made them want to rebel because of dumb taxations.
  • Boston Massacre

    An incident where British soldiers shot and killed 5 civilians. It created signifigant resentment towards the crown when the soldiers were not held accountable.
  • Hessians

    A group of mercenary soldiers from Germany that fought in support of the British empire during the Revolutionary War. They were famously defeated on Christmas Morning when the Americans crossed the Delaware River and won their first big victory.
  • Abigail Adams

    John Adams devoted wife. Countless letters between the two while John was representing the new United States in London.
  • Martha Curtis Washington

    George Washington's wife and the first, first lady of the United States.
  • Thomas Jefferson

    One of the founding fathers, primary author of the declaration of independence, the first secretary of state, continental congress' ambassador to France, 3rd president of the United States.
  • Patriots

    People who believed that the colonies should seperate from the British empire.

    George Washington was the leader of the Continental army and the first president of the United States.
  • Benedict Arnold

    Benedict Arnold was a military officer that betrayed his people later.
  • Boston Tea Party

    A non violent protest where colonists dressed up as Indians and threw a whole large tea shipment over board to show that they don't support the tax acts they were passing. Helped blow off steam for people and made Britain angry.
  • Intolerable Acts

    The acts stripped Massachusetts of self-government and historic rights, triggering outrage and resistance in the Thirteen Colonies. They were key developments in the outbreak of the American Revolution in 1775. It out-raged many people when they weren't allowed to make their own choices for thei rgovernment.

    The government for the colonies from 1774 to 1789.
  • Thomas Paine

    Thomas Paine wrote a book called "Common Sense" that argued for democratic principles.
  • Lexington and Concord

    The first military engagements in the Revolutionary war. It was important because it started the Revolutionary War which was very important.
  • Loyalists

    American colonists who rejected the American Revolution.
  • Common Sense

    Argued for independence and was very infuental for building public support for independence from Great Britain. Fueled the flames for the fire which also helped start the war.
  • Declaration of Independence

    A piece of parchment signed by people who agree that America should be an independent country from Britain. Was one of the official markers of the start of the Revolutionary War.
  • Paul Revere

    He is most famous for alerting the Colonial militia to the approach of British forces before the battles of Lexington and Concord.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    The Battles of Saratoga conclusively decided the fate of British General John Burgoyne's army in the American War of Independence and is generally regarded as a turning point in the war. Ended the Revolutionary War to stop death and the U.S. gained independence.

    Sam Adams was a founding father of the U.S. and a political philosopher.
  • John Adams

    John Adams was the first vide president of the U.S. and a founding father. John Adams was one of the biggest voices for arguing for independence and one of the primary authors for the declaration of independence.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    An important and big battle in the Revolutionary War against the British.
  • Treaty of Paris (1783)

    The treaty signed between Great Britain and the United States that ended the Revolutionary War and gave the U.S. independence. Gave the U.S. independence from Britain.
