    The original idea was a petition but it soon got out of hand. The American people began to protest the tax and then they just stopped paying it.
  • Gaspee Affair

    Gaspee Affair
    A British ship by the name of the Gaspee ran aground in Rhode Island. Later that night a group of Americans raided the Gaspee harming the captain and all of the crew members.

    The British began to put a large tax on tea. This cause anger within the people of the colnies. When three British boats full of tea landed in Boston Harbor, the Bostonians became very upset. They became so upset that they climbed into the boats disguised as Native Americans and threw the boxes upon boxes of tea into the harbor.

    The Intolerable Acts
    The Intolerable acts came in four parts. The first part was that the British made sure that all the damages and tea from the Boston Tea Party were paid for. It then closed down Boston Harbor for anything but British ships. The second thing they did was send loads of British troops into Boston. Third, the British government became in charge of all Boston Town Meetings. Lastly, they extended the Canadian borders to cut off the western colonies.

    The Battle of Lexington and Concord
    The British began to march to Concord. With much disgrace the men of the town around met the British military in an open field to stop the march. There was a gun shot that is now know as the Shot Hear Around the World. The Patriots did not have great marksmanship but they killed 250 Red Coats while only 90 Patriots died.

    The night before the Battle of Lexington and Concord Paul Revere rode his horse around town of Massachusets alerting the colonial Militia of the marching of British troops. He is known for saying "The British are Coming, the British are coming."

    The Decleration on Indapendance was written by Thomas Jefferson and before the final singning on July 4th the document went through 86 edits.

    The final document written by the colonists declaring freedom from England. The Decleration talked about why the colonists were fighting England and why they wanted Freedom. It is looked at as the most famous and important document of American history.
