  • Proclamation of 1763

    This proclamation said that settlers could not settle past the Appalachian Mountains, in order to keep Native Americans from attacking the settlers.
  • Boston Massacre

    British troops and civilians got in a fight. The fight was caused when civilians formed a mob around a single civilian sentry, who was later backed up by eight more soldiers. The civilians shouted and threw objects at the soldiers, who returned with rifle fire, killing civilians and earning the event the name, "The Boston Massacre".
  • Boston Tea Party

    Sons of Liberty dressed as native americans got onto ships sent by the British East India Company, and threw the tea on board into Boston Harbor in protest of the Tea Act.
  • Battles of Lexington and Concord

    First battles of the American Revolutionary War, The minutemen were outnumbered at Lexington and fell back, allowing the British to advance to Concord, where around 500 minutemen defeated three companies (240-750 soldiers) of British troops, The British retreated and were sniped at, losing men all the way back to Boston.
  • Battle of Fort Ticonderoga

    The Green Mountain Boys (part of the patriots) over took Fort Ticonderoga. They looted cannons from the fort which later helped the war effort.
  • Battle of Bunker Hill

    Leaders of the colonial forces surrounding Boston found out that the British were planning to occupy the hils surrounding Boston to try to bring an end to the Siege of Boston that was taking place. The colonial troops moved 1,200 men to fortify the Charlestown peninsula (now located in present day Boston). When the British found out the colonial troops' positions, they attacked and defeated the colonial troops, suffering heavy casualties but forcing the colonial troops into retreat.
  • Olive Branch Petition

    An attempt at peace that was supposed to prevent a war between the colonies and Britain. Britain rejected the petition, and went on to wage war with the colonies.
  • Publishing of Common Sense

    Common Sense was an event that encouraged the colonies to declare independence from Great Britain. It was published anonymously and was very popular.
  • Battle of Dorchester Heights

    The continental army occupied some low hills in an area outside of Boston called Dorchester Heights, where they also mounted cannons on the hills. The British were going to attack the continental army, but a snowstorm stopped them, and the British withdrew from the city of Boston.
  • Declaration of Independence

    A document that officially said that the american colonies considered themselves independent from Great Britain. Congress appointed five men to write the declaration, which was accepted on July 4th, our independence day.
  • Battle of Trenton

    Battle in which Washington and his troops crossed the Delaware River, and captured almost the entire Hessian force that was there.
  • Battle of Princeton

    George Washington's forces defeated the British when they attacked their positions at Princeton.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    A turning point in the American Revolution, in which the British's plan was to split the middle and southern colonies from the northern colonies.
  • Valley Forge

    Valley Forge was the Winter Camp that the Continental army stayed at. The winter claimed nearly 2,500 soldiers from disease, starvation, and exposure.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    A victory for George Washington that was achieved when French and American troops collaborated to take Yorktown.
  • Treaty of Paris

    Treaty that ended the american revolutionary war. Even though the British got some it's land back, it had to give various pieces of land to the U.S. and it's allies.
