  • Patriots/Loyalists

    Patriots/Loyalists
    Patriots - Colonists that found they wanted to be Americans rather than obey the rules of the British Parliament and King.
    Loyalists - Colonists that remained loyal to the British Parliament and King and obeyed their rules.
  • New York City

    Merchants began to boycott against British goods until the Stamp Act had been repealed.
  • German Mercenaries

    German Mercenaries
    The German Mercenaries, called Hessians, came with British Soldiers into the New York Harbor. They were well-trained soldiers that the abritish wanted to help in the Revolution.
  • Washington - Christmas Night - 1776

    Washington - Christmas Night - 1776
    Washington risked all he had to try to take Trenton, New Jersey with a force of around 2,400 men and succeeded.
  • Inflation

    As Congress began to print money, they began printing more and more, causing its value to drop dramatically. As the value dropped, all prices in the colonies rose. This happened during the revolution when Congress had trouble paying the troops. It took place around 1779 to 1782.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    Americans surrounded British General John Burgoyne and caused him to surrender at the Battle of Saratoga. This surrender was a major turn point in the war for the Americans.
  • Battle of Valley Forge

    Not an actual battle, the Battle of Valley Forge was a fight for survival. Washington and his troops were very low on supplies they desperately needed to stay alive during the winter at the camp. More then 2,000 soldiers died, but the survivors did not bother to abandon the camp.
  • Friedrich von Steuben

    Steuben was a Prussian captain that helped to train Washington's men at Valley Forge.
  • Savannah, Georgia

    A British force marched on Savannah and easily overtook the area from the Americas.
  • Marquis de Lafayette

    Marquis de Lafayette
    A foreign military leader that helped to lobby France in the revolution. He urged French troops to help the Americans.
  • Charles town, South Carolina

    This was the greatest victory in the war for the British. The army was being led by Charles Cornwallis and General Henry Clinton.
  • Cornwallis

    Cornwallis was a British Army Leader that helped to take over Charles town. After this, he continued to conquer the land to the South while another General began to try and conquer the North.
  • Robert Morris and Haym Salomon

    Morris and Salomon were appointed the financial experts by Congress during the time of inflation. They borrowed from their personal credit to make funds for the Continental Army.
  • Yorktown

    Yorktown
    Cornwallis moved his troops, around 7,500 men, to the fort of Yorktown. After he planned to fortify Yorktown, 17,000 American and French troops surrounded the fort and caused the general to surrender. After about a month of battle, The British decided to surrender. This battle was the turn point where the Americans won.
  • Treaty of Paris

    The Treaty was designed to show that America had gained their independence. Also, it wrote the boundaries that were to be set for the new nation.
