  • French and Indian War

    French and Indian War
    It was a long standing rivalry between France and England. The war was fought in Europe from 1754-1763, and was also known as the seven years war. England was defeated by the French and was forced to return to Virginia. The war was officially declared in 1766 when the general of the British was killed by a French and Indian ambush. France lost Canadian colonies and claims the land east of the Mississippi River. And England got all French territory in Canada, and Florida.

    Treaty of 1763
    The Treaty of 1763, also known as "The Treaty of Paris" was a treaty signed on February 10th of 1763. It was signed by the great kingdoms of Great Britain, France and Spain. It was with Portugal in agreement after Great Britain and Prussia's victory over France and Spain during the Seven Years War. It stated that France gave up all of its territories in mainland North America.

    It was issued by King George the third. Following the Seven Years War. It forbade all settlement west of the line drawn along the Appalachian Mountains. Which was known as an Indian Reserve. An Ottawa chief declared all lands west of the Appalachian off limits to colonial settlers.

    It was an act of the Parliament of Great Britain which imposed a direct tax on the British colonies in America. And it required that printed materials in the colonies would be produced on stamped paper. Which was produced in London, carrying an embossed revenue stamp. And the British tried to raise the revenue through direct taxation of all papers, newspapers, pamphlets, cards, almanacs, and dice.

    Boston Massacre
    It was a confrontation in which the British soldiers shot and killed several people while being harassed by a mob in Boston. The protestors (Patriots) were protesting the occupation of their city by British troops. They were sent to Boston to enforce unpopular taxation measures passed by a British parliament that lacked American representation. While people were killed in the process, unintentionally by British soldiers due to the mob.

    It was a political protest by the Sons of Liberty in Boston Massachusetts. The American Colonists were mad and angry at Britain for imposing "Taxation without representation" and they dumped 342 chests of tea, imported by the British East India Company into the harbor.
  • Intolerable Acts

    Intolerable Acts
    They were punitive laws passed by the British Parliament after the Boston Tea Party. The laws were meant to punish the Massachusetts colonists for their act in the Boston Tea Party protest. Which was in reaction to the changed in taxation by the British Government. There were five acts in this. Boston Port Act, Massachusetts Government Act, Administration of Justice Act, Quartering Act, and Quebec Act.
  • Battles of Lexington and Concord

    Battles of Lexington and Concord
    It was fought on April 19th 1775. This battle kicked off the American Revolution. The night before the battle, thousands of British troops marched from Boston to nearby Concord in order to seize an arms cache. It was the first military engagement of the American Revolution

    It was fought during the Siege of Boston in the early stages of the American Revolutionary War. The battle was named after Bunker Hill in Charlestown, Massachusetts, which was involved in the battle. During this battle, the British defeated the Americans. The patriots sought to delay a British attack, but instead provoked one.

    It was a pamphlet written by Thomas Paine. It was advocating independence from Great Britain to people in the Thirteen Colonies. He wrote political arguments to encourage common people in the Colonies to fight for egalitarian government. He set forth his arguments in favor of American independence.

    It was pronouncement adopted by the Second Continental Congress meeting in Philadelphia. The main purpose of the Declaration was the explain to foreign nations why the colonies had chosen to separate themselves from Great Britain. The Revolutionary War had already began at this point and several major battles too.

    It was a small but pivotal battle during the American Revolutionary War. The significance of the conflict was that the Hessian army was crushed in Washington's raid across the Delaware River and the Americans were invigorated by the easy defeat of the British Hessian forces

    It functioned as the third of eight winter encampments for the Continental Army's main body. It was commanded by General George Washington, during the American Revolutionary War. It was a six month encampment. It was a major turning point in the American Revolutionary War.

    This battle marked the climax of the Saratoga campaign, giving a victory the the Americans over the British in the American Revolutionary War. His surrender to American forces at this battle marked a turning point of the Revolutionary War. (The British and Hessian troops surrendered their arms.)
  • Battle of Cowpens

    It was an engagement during the American Revolutionary War near the town of Cowpens, which was where the name came from. This battle was a strategically ingenious American victory during the American Revolution over a British force in South Carolina. It was a rare win for the American forces considering that they don't normally win. And it slowed British efforts to invade North Carolina.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    Battle of Yorktown
    It was a surrender at Yorktown. The significance of the conflict was that Cornwallis surrendered to George Washington as French and American forces trapped the British at Yorktown. The British surrender at the Battle of Yorktown ended the American Revolutionary War.
  • Treaty of Paris 1783

    In the Treaty of Paris, the British Crown formally recognized American independence and ceded most of its territory east of the Mississippi River to the United States, doubling the size of the new nation and paving the way for westward expansion.
