  • Treaty of Paris (French and Indian War)

    Treaty of Paris (French and Indian War)
    Britain claimed all of North America east of the Mssissippi River in 1763. France gave Spain pieces of land and Britain traded Cuba and Philippines for Florida with Spain. This treaty ended the French's power in North America.
  • Proclamation of 1763

    Proclamation of 1763
    The Proclamation of 1763 forbidded colonists to settle west of the Applation Mountains. This angered colonists because they fought the French and Indians to recieve this land and they did not. Some colonists did not listen to this proclamation and still setteled west of the Applations.
  • Sugar Act

    In 1764, Parliament passed the Sugar Act that placed a tax on sugar, molasses and other products shipped to the collonies. Americans did not like this because they were getting taxed without representation. Many revolts started.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    In 1765, Parliament passed the Stamp Act which requeired all legal and commercial documents to carry an official stamp showing that a tax had been paid. Those items included things such as playing cards and news papers. The Americans did not like this to say the least.

    In 1765, Parliament passed the Quartering Acts which was a cost-saving measure that required the colonies to house British soldiers and provide them with supplies. It also allowed British soldiers to use the writs of assisstance. That allowed them to search houses of the colonists
  • Boston Massacure

    Boston Massacure
    On March 5, 1770, a group of young kids and dockworkers stated elling things infront of the Custom House in Boston. Eventually a fight broke out between the colonists and the British soilders. The soilders ended up firing at the colonists and 5 people died because of this.

    In 1773, Parliament passed the Tea Act. The Tea Act gave the British East India Company control over the American tea trade. To say the least, the Americans did not like this mainly because the Dutch tea tasted much better. So they riots and boycotted.

    On December 16, 1773, The Boston Tea PArty occurred. A group of men disguised as Native Americans boarded three shipstea ships docked in the Boston Harbor. They dumped out hundereds of barrels of tea into the harbor.
  • Intolerable Acts

    Intolerable Acts
    In 1774, Parliament passed a series of laws to punish the Massachusetts colonies and to serve as a warning to other colonies. The British called these laws the Coercive Acts. IT closted the port of Boston until colonists paid for the destroyed tea. It also banned the committees of correspondence allowing Britain to house troops whenever necessary and to let British officials accused of crimes in the colonies stand trail in Britain.

    In September 1774, delegates from all the colonies (except Georgia) met in Philadelphia. The delegates voted to ban all trade with Britain (boycotting) until the Intolerable Acts were repealed. They also agreed on each colony to start training troops.

    The first battles of the Revolutionary War begain on April 19, 1775. The colonial troops had fired the "shots heard 'round the world." The two sides fighting were the British (also called Loyalists) and the Americans (called the Patiots)

    On May 10, 1775, The delegates from all the conlonies met in Philadelphia. The agreed for the Continental Army which Geroge Washington was chosen as the commanding general. They also began printing money to pay for the troops.
  • Battle of Bunker Hill

    On June 16, 1775, the Battle Bunker Hill began. In the end, the redcoates had won. More than 1,000 were killed or wounded. the inexperienced colonial militia had shown the world tha they cold hold ts own against the most powerful army in the world at the time.

    "Common Sense" by Thomas Paine
    In the begining of 1776, Common Sense was publised by writer of Thomas Paine. Pain didn't believe that the kings ruled by the will of any God. Pain also believed that all the monarchies were corrupt and imporoper. He disagreed with the economic arguments for America remaining with Great Britain.

    Thomas Jefferson was chosen to dompose the Declaration of Independence. He was one memember of a committe chosen to draft the Declaration. Some of the members included Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, Roger Sherman, Robert Livingston and Thomas Jefferson. Congress finally accepted his document on July 4, 1776

    Battle of Long Island (Battle of Brooklyn)
    For several months, Britian and America fought for the ground of New York. Britians army arrived in New York first. The American side was lacking clothes and supplies. In the end, the British won. American spirits were becoming worry some.

    Thomas Paine began writing the American Cisis. It urged Americans to continue fighting. He witnessed the hard conditions that the soldier's faced and encouraged them to continue fighting. The civilians were also becoming mre down, and they needed encouagement as well.

    Washington and his men sailed across the Delaware River towards Trenton to attack the German Hessians. The Hessians were drunk in Christmas celebrations, which made the victory for the Americas and George Washington easier. They captured much needed supplies and killed over 900 Hessians

    The Battles of Saratoga were the main turning points of the Revolutionary War. The colonial army, led by Benedict Arnold, forces the British army to retreat. After the battle, Benedict Arnold becomes angry from his lack of recognition so he betrays the army and fights for the British.

    Winter at Valley Forge
    Washington's army retreated from the battles in Philadlphia and settle in Valley Forge. Supplies were short so private citizens provided them with well needed clothing and supplies. They trained and prepared the entire winter.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    Battle of Yorktown
    In 1781, the continental army and the British troops meet in Yortown. The Americans (who allied themselves with the French) bombed Yorktown with multiple cannon fire. Buildings were turned to rubble, and then on October 19, 1781,the Briish fleet surrenderd.

    The Treaty of Paris ended the Revoltionary War on 6 conditions.The most important beling along the lines of, America is free, retturn all depts, return slaves, allow the US to fish off of Canadas Atlantic Coast and such. The 2 conditions that weren't met were return all slaves and the return of property seized from Loyalists.
