  • First Republican meeting

    First Republican meeting took place in Ripon, Wisconsin on March 20, 1854.

    Thomas Nast, a new york cartoonist, decided that the republican party is kind of like an elephant because elephants were clever, Thomas Nast created a cartoon of a Democratic Donkey trying to scare Republican voters who were elephants.

  • Women's suffrage

    In 1896, Republicans were the first major party to favor women’s suffrage. Many early suffrage supporters, including Susan B. Anthony, remained single because, in the early 1800s, married women could not own property.

  • William Mckinley elected

    He gave a resurgance in the Republican Party. For a long time, William McKinley was considered a mediocre President, a chief executive who was controlled by his political cronies and who was pressured into war with Spain by the press however.

  • Spanish American War

    Mckinley's first term was dominated by the Spanish American War. It lasted 10 years and thrusted the United States into politics. The De Lome Letter and explosion of the USS Maine were the main causes.

  • World War 1

    Twenty-eight U.S. president Thomas Woodrow Wilson held office for two terms and was president during entire World War 1. World War 1 is actually much more complicated than a simple list of causes. There were many causes.

  • First woman elected to Congress

    The first woman elected to Congress was a Republican, Jeanette Rankin from Montana in 1917. This was even before women had the right to vote. Rankin also stood her ground as a pacifist, being the only member of Congress to oppose the US’ entry into both World Wars.

  • Great Depression

    Two presidents were in office during Great Depression, Herbert Hoover and Franklin D. Roosevelt. The stock market crashing on Black Tuesdaay was one of the major causes that led to the Great Depression.

  • World War 2

    Franklin D. Roosevelt was in term during World War 2. Britain and France declared war on Germany following Germany's invasion of Poland and that caused us to join the war.

  • Civil Rights Movement

    Andrew Johnson was president during the Civil Rights Movement, but by the time the 15th amendment was ratified Ulysses S. Grant was president. They continued to separate the races in restaurants, schools, theaters, parks, and other public facilities in many states in the South. So the African American strarted a movement.

  • Recession during George Bush's term

    Bad economy and gowing issues about the aftermath of the Cold War and impatience with the government lead to the recession. The four main causes are aggregate supply, aggregate spending, money demand and money supply.

  • Mitt Romney runs against Barack Obama

    Republican Mitt Romney is close to Obama in the voting polls. The 2012 presidential election in the United States will be held on Tuesday, November 6, 2012. About 67 percent of the viewers of the first presidential debate between Barack Obama and Mitt Romney, which took place on October 3, stated that Romney did the better job.
