I always remember my dad reading this to me before I went to bed. I think this is when it started that I had to read every night before bed. I still do 36 years later! This was dated 1985, I was 5 years old. My brother was born in 87 and I remember reading this to him when he was little. -
This book was given to me in 1987 by my uncle. I remember this was one of the books I would read to my dad with confidence. I remember us laughing while reading what these silly dogs were doing. -
This was my first dictionary given to me on my 8th birthday. This is one birthday I clearly remember. I got a big girl desk and desk supplies and this dictionary. It was around this point where I knew I wanted to be a teacher. I was so excited to be able to look up new words! -
I instantly got hooked on reading the Babysitters Club Books. I had to have every one of them. Once I got a new one I read it pretty quickly and could not wait for the next one. These books sparked my desire to babysit when I became old enough and to create a flyer and do all the things that they did in the books. -
I participated in the elementary school book parade. Where you had to read books and take quizzes on your own time. If you read 8 books before a certain time period you got to meet an author. I met Bill Wallace who wrote one of the books I read from the Book Parade. -
The following year I participated in the book parade again. This was fifth grade I believe. I loved reading and part of this reading was done over a school vacation. I was so excited to be able to meet another author. I met Gordon Korman who wrote the War with Mr Wizzle after reading another 8 books. -
I set a goal for the book parade that I did in the 5th grade. Not only did I want to meet another other (which I accomplished), I wanted to read all the books that were part of the Book Parade. There were 16 of them. I wish I remembered how long we had. This was very challenging for me as there was a range of genres included. I never did like people picking out what they thought I should read! I met that goal and was awarded with this hard cover book. -
Like many people who graduate high school, I was given the book - Oh, the Places You'll Go! This has always been a very special book to me. I recently took this book out from an old box of stuff and read it. A lot has happened since this book was given to me. I was able to make a lot of connections with this book! -
I would always read to my step daughter before she went to bed and when she learned how to read she would always ask to read before she went to bed. You can't deny anyone of reading! This is her after falling asleep reading Sponge Bob. I was hoping that she would discover a passion for reading like I did but she never did. She is now 23 and rarely picks up a book. -
I moved from Michigan to Texas and then to Nevada. I sold all my books. I began downloading books to read on my tablet. I thought this was great. It was convenient and cheaper. BUT, nothing beats having a book in your hand or the smell of a book. I began to buy books again when I got settled in Reno. I have not bought an e-book since. -
Fast forward a LOT of years. This is a very special book that I have read to the elementary school students I volunteer for. My Children's Lit class we had to write a book. This was one project that I was beyond excited to do. I never stopped loving books after all these years and now I had a chance to make my own. My dog recently passed so this was a very emotional book to write and read. -
This picture shows one of my book cases. It also shows how many books I have purchased in the last 6 months. I make reading a priority. I go to bed early just so I have time to relax and read. Anytime I go on vacation there are always books that go with me. I do hope that when I begin teaching that I can share the passion for reading with my students. Seems so many people do not like to read! It is shocking to me!!
