Raising Kaira

  • 8 Months Old

When Kaira turned 8 moths old, she showed a preference for me over others. Usually this would happen if she was in unfamiliar setting with new faces or if she was playing and hurt herself she would run to me. I was Kaira's primary attachement figure (pg.207) person who is sought out when a child experiences some kind of distress.
  • Raising Kaira (Early Childhood)

At 30months, sometimes I would get frustrated and irritated whenever we would go to church as a family or even out at family dinners. I thought Kaira found it impossible to sit still or be quiet when needed. Sometimes I thought something was wrong with her. I found out that there was nothing wrong with her. At two and a half years old, the reticular formation, a part of the lower brain involved in attention is not completed until age 5 (pp.232-233). This explains her inability to sit still.
  • Raising Kaira (Ealry Childhood)

When Kaira was 36 months she started to dispaly some signs of aggression. This would happen most of the time when we were on play dates with other chidren who had different toys that she did not have. This was a sign of instrumental aggresion. Instrumental aggression is when a child wants something (toys, food, attention) and uses aggressive behavior to get it (pp. 271-272).

When Kaira was three months old she started getting more curious about the world around her. She would look around sharply and turn her head to high pitched sounds. I could tell she was hearing but she didn't know where the sounds were coming from, this is called sound localization. (pg. 109)
  • Divided Attention

Kaira was 15 years old. Sometime I would be listing the chores to her that need to be completed. She would also be completing homework on her computer or have her attention occupied otherwise but she knew exactly what I said. She was displaying divided attention- ability to focus on more than one task at a time (pg. 358).
