In New York City The Ramones and Richard Hell, In the U.K. The Clash and Sex Pistols and in Australia The Saints, make up the first recognized punk bands to have their music recorded.

    Punk was first a musical movement, it evolved into a philosophy. Punk was a reaction against the hippy peace and love culture of the 1960’s which youth in the 1970’s saw as naïve and unrealistic.

Punks wanted rock music to return to the days of fast, energetic, DIY bands whose urgency mirrored the concerns and interests of the young.

    Punk fashion began as rebellion against the slick, glossy look pop music had adopted. Ripped jeans, leather jackets, and clothing held together by safety pins.. Latter fetish costume items became popular, fishnet stockings, rubber and brightly dyed hair. High fashion began to take notice and adopted the look, and sold rebellion to the general public.
