    G. Stanley Hall studied children's minds and the psychology behind it. "The Child Study Movement investigated how children's minds and personalities developed." It is so important for educators to understand how a child learns, why a child learns and when a child is developmentally capable of learning different areas and levels of subject. One mental step is needed for the next one to develop and work.

    The Cardinal Principals of 1918
    The start of the curriculum for high schools. Broadened the scope of education to promote more well rounded kids. Guidance counseling and career assessments helped students plan for a better future. This is important because high school is often the last school session before real life begins. This report was, "one of the twentieth century's most influential education documents." This document leveled the playing field for high school students.
  • The Great Depression

    The Great Depression
    Works Progress Administration and Public Works Administration gave money to schools for teachers, supplies, food, and more space. Work study programs were created along with other projects to help with reading and writing. Attendance and child labor laws were created after WWI. Standardized tests were a byproduct of WWI-still used today. Voluntary education programs taught youth to read and write and got out diplomas and degrees.

    Brown V. Board of Education
    This event finally integrated schools. "Separate but equal" became a thing of the past. All children, black or white, were able to get an education. Segregated schools had a negative impact on children, their future, and the country's future. While this absolutely did not solve all segregation problems, it was a monumental start. There was resistance that has a lingering affect today with location of inner city schools and suburb districts.

    Public Law 94-142
    This law allowed children with disabilities to get a public education that was appropriate for their abilities. There were individualized education plans created, special services, and proper learning environments. This gave even more children in the country an education. This is so important because it includes so many more children in the public school system. Many kids were excluded before this act was in place .
