Psychology Life

  • Birth

    Birth
I was born on June 24th, 1997. This event begins all of the concepts developed by Piaget, Kohlberg, and Erikson. *The picture is not me!
  • Umbrella

    Umbrella
When I was around 6 months old, I began using words. However, I didn't actually know what to say specifically, so when I heard the sound of an umbrella, I associated it with the actual name. As in, I called umbrellas "suh-pow" for a while, because that was the sound that they made. That is related to Piaget's concept of the sensorimotor period, because I had associated the umbrella with a symbolic sound.
  • Dress-Up

    Dress-Up
At about age 3, I was very interested in dress up, and I loved to dress myself. There was a huge box of various wild clothes that I would play make-believe with. This coincides with Erikson's Stage 2: Autonomy vs. Shame and doubt. Personally, I developed a sense of autonomy because I had no shame about what I was doing.
  • Kindergarten

    Kindergarten
When I entered Kindergarten, I always did my best to behave well and I always followed the rules. We had a card-pull system that, if you broke a rule, you had to pull a card out of your pouch. And if all of them were pulled, you got in big trouble. I only ever had to pull one card, and when I did, I got very upset and felt extremely guilty. This relates to Kohlberg's Conventional stage because we normally value moral codes and rules during that stage.
  • Queen of the School

    Queen of the School
In 1st grade, we had a competition to see who could read the most books in a year. I actually won, and I got to be "Queen of the School" for a day. I got to follow the principal around and go to different classrooms. This situation models Erikson's stage of Industry vs. Inferiority. This is where we begin to compete with our peers for positions and such. Because I won the competition, it helped to instill in me a sense of industry.
  • AG

    AG
In 3rd grade, Burke County began testing more advanced students for the Academically Gifted program. I was accepted into the program. The "AG kids" would take a little bit of time out of class and work on some more challenging topics, including Pre-Algebra. We were all around 9 years old, and we had to use problem solving and look at the problem as a whole, integrating many parts. This is an example of the Concrete Operational Period, as developed by Piaget.
  • Redeemed

    Redeemed
I am personally, a Christian. Like many, I was saved at Bible School when I was very young, but I felt like I didn't fully understand what I was doing. So, in sixth grade, at church camp, I was truly saved again. I did what personally satisfied my moral thoughts for myself and I put faith in what I truly believe in. This shows Kohlberg's early Postconventional level.
  • Davidson College

    Davidson College
I plan on becoming a doctor and attending Davidson College. I have set these goals for myself and I want to push myself to achieve them. This shows Identity vs. Role Confusion. I fully intend on succeeding at these goals, so I plan on finding my true identity.
  • Missionary Doctor

    Missionary Doctor
When I grow up, I want to become a missionary doctor and travel all over the world, providing medical care and service to people of all cultures and races. I will have to think logically and go over every situation from every hypothetical angle to be able to provide the most adequate care. This exemplifies most of Piaget's Formal Operational Period, because I will have to use a higher level of thinking in order to make the right decision.
  • Little Ones

    Little Ones
In the very distant future, I want to have a family. I would love to have 2 boys and a girl. This shows Erikson's Stage 7: Generativity vs. Self-Absorption, because I am choosing between integrating myself into society, and preserving the future, or becoming totally egotistical and self absorbed.
