    Jacob Riis buys his First Camera
    Jacob Riis was born on May 3rd, 1849, and died on May 26th, 1914. Riis was another very important progressive muckraker during the progressive era. He was a Danish American that photographed the hardships of the poor people living in the slums of New York. He wanted to show the middle and Upper classes what the living conditions were like for poor people, like him.

    William Jennings Bryan (Popular Politician)
    William Jennings Bryan was born in March, 1860 an died on July 26th, 1925. Bryan was a very popular politician from 1890, to his death. Bryan believed in reform, and was a support of the demopcratic party, as well as the progressive party. He believed in prohibition, and went against big banks and the raliroad system. He ran for president 3 times, but never became elected.

    H.G Wells writes "The Time Machine"
    H.G Wells was born on Spetember 21st, 1866, and died on August 13th, 1946. Wells was a science fiction writer who published many bokks which had socialist and darwinist themes. His books cause some belief in the socialist movments, and this caused people to believe in reform. In his later works, he wrote more about the lower middle class way of life, and less about science fiction. He also had very pacifist views towards war.
  • Upton Sinclair Wrote "The Jungle"

    Upton Sinclair Wrote "The Jungle"
    Upton Sinclair Was born on September 20th, 1878, and died on November 25th, 1968. Sinclair was an author of over one hundred books, and was one of the most famous muckrackers of all time. He was most famous for his book "The Jungle", which exposed the meat packing industry, and caused the passing of the Meat Inspection Act, and the Food and Drug Act. The Food and Drug Act led to the founding of the FDA, which regulates the foos and drugs made by companies.

    Corrupt Practice Reforms are attempts to limit the power of big buisnesses, and to give the power back to the people. An example of a corrupt practice during the Progressive era would be the trusts made between companies in order to raise the price of goods.

    Public Service Reforms
    Public service reforms are places or organizations created to help people in need. These were made to help the poor people living in the slums, struggling to survive. An example of this would be the YMCA (Young Mans Chritian Ascotiation) which was made to help men have food and have a place to sleep.
  • Labor Reform

    Labor Reform
    Labor reform was made to help the working class and make there living conditions better. These reforms also helped lead to age restictions for factories, and how long ours can be. An example of this reform working was the Unions created for the workers so they wouldnt lose their jobs.
  • Business Reform

    Business Reform
    Business reform was involved in making working conditions in factories better and more safe. The factories before the progressive era had many flaws, like no fire escapes, no plans incase of fire, dusty rooms, dangerous working conditions, and no easy access to bathrooms. These reforms made the workplace slightly more enjoyable, and fire efficient

    Social Justice Reform is reform that is caused by wrongful doing of buisnesses in the social aspect. These reforms helped the well being of the people working for the big buisnesses. This also helped in the trust busting reform because of the injustice the buisnesses were doing to the social class.

    Teddy Roosevelt Joins the Progressive Party
    Teddy Roosevelt was born on October 27th, 1858, and died on January 6th, 1919. He bacame the President of the United States of America in 1901, qnd held office until 1909. While in office, he was one of the most progressive Presidents in US history, even though he ran as a republican. He passed bills and laws like the Meat Packing Act and the Food and Drug Act which caused serious reform inside big biusnesses. He later in 1913 ran for president with the Progressive party, but sadly lost.

    Hiram Johnson Runs For Vice President
    Hiram Johnson was born on September 2nd, 1866, and died on Gugust 6th, 1945. Johnson was a progressive politician from california which believed in progression and reform. Johnson was named Teddy Roosevelts running mate during the 1912 election, but lost to Woodrow Wilson. He believed in helping people and tried to cause reform in subjects like woman suffarage, and child labor.

    The 16th Amendment
    The 16th Amendment allowed congress to levy an income tax without basing it of of the United States Census, or asking the states. This made income tax not a constituitional Requirment, but let the cogress have the power in deciding what the income tax would be.

    The 17th Amendment made the election of state senators the peoples decision, instead of the state legislatures decision. This gave the people the right to vote for there senators.

    Woodrow Wilson Becomes the 28th President of the United States
    Woodrow Wilson was born on December 28th, 1856, and died on February 3rd, 1924. Wilson was one of the most influencial people to the progressive era. As he became president, he passed many progressive reforms, like the Federal Reserve Act, and the Clayton Antitrust Act, and the Federal Trade Comission Act. These acts all made progressive changes to the government. Also, he was a big advocate to womans suffarge.
  • The 18th Amendment

    The 18th Amendment
    The 18th Amendment made the selling or consuming of alcohol illegal. This was called Prohibition. This anger alot of people, and cause some to have illegal bars that would sell alcohol and cause people to have to enforce the law more harsh. The Amendment was later repealed in 1933 due to the amount of illegal activity going on in the Untied States because of it.

    The 19th Amendment
    The 19th Amendment made it so any US citizen has the right to vote, no matter what sex you are. This gives the woman the right to vote. This was a strong fighting point for woman during thw progressive era, and they finally got it towards the end.

    Eugene Debs Runs for President From Prison
    Eugene Debs was born on November 5th, 1855, and died on October 20th, 1926. Debs was the leader of the American Socialist party in 1901, and was a huge support of the socialist ways. He was the founder of the American Railway Union, and was not a supporter of World War I. He ran for President 5 times (Never Won), and the last time he ran, he ran from prison.
  • Robert La Flollette Runs for President

    Robert La Flollette Runs for President
    Robert La Follette was born on June 14th, 1855 and died on June 18th, 1925. Follette was a republican Politician for the state of Wisconsin and believed that biusnees shouldn't be envolved in politics. He was an enemy of the ralroad trusts, and the league of nations. He later in 1924, the yeaqr before his death, ran for president as a progressive. He fought for the farmers in the mid west and believed that the railroads were overcharging for transportation, which caused many farmers to fail.
  • Charles Evans Hughes Becomes Chief Justice

    Charles Evans Hughes Becomes Chief Justice
    Charles Evans Hughes was born on April 11th, 1862, and died on August 27th, 1848. Hughes was a republican governor of New York, before running for president in 1916. He lost to Woodrow Wilson, but by a small margin. Charles was one of the most influemtial people in the progressive movement, because of his popularity within the republican party, and was later named the 11th Chief Justice of the United States. This position also helped let progressive reforms pass.
  • Jane Adams Wins Nobel Peace Prize

    Jane Addams was born on September 6th, 1860, and died on May 21st, 1935. Addams was pioneer settlement worker who wanted to help people. Addams was one of the most influential supporters of reform for women and children. She focused on the sufarage of women, children, and helping make world peace. Jane adams was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for her work as a peace keeper and reformer.
