The declaration of WW1
When Britain declared war on Germany, Canada was involved because of their partnership with Britain. This was just the start of decline for 1914 and further on for the years. There are pro's and cons about WW1, first explaining how we've already sent a lot of men to war. -
Battle of Ypres.
This was Canada's first damaging battle. 6 000 soldiers were affected by this battle. They were either killed, captured or injured. During this battle Canada's force was outnumbered and lost many soldiers before hand from chlorine gas. This was where the Britain and other allies pushed into the Germans. -
Vimy Ridge
This was Canada's most celebrated victory and defining moment. They won the battle but committed approximately 10 000 men injured and killed. This was a very important part of history because the battle helped end the war and brought Canada to a new era of peace. -
Women got the right to vote
In this time period, women finally got the right to vote. There was many missing spots for people to vote back in 1917 with all the men at war. Women at the time were fighting for their rights as well to the Wartime Elections Act gave them a right to vote. This is a important moment because this was the start of freedom for women. -
The Halifax boat explosion
In 1917 there was a very high demand for resources and weaponry. There were hundreds of boats clocking in and out of the harbour. On December 6th a frenh cargo ship packed with dozens of explosions crashed in Nova Scotia. This killed 100 people and another 100 were severely injured. Canada in return supported the soldiers and donated goods and money. -
End of WW1
On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918 world war 1 ended. Germany surrendered letting Britain and their allies including Canada with a victory. Canada was rewarded with a new seat in the League of Nations. -
Residential Schools
Residential schools were assigned for every indigenous child ages 14-20. The schools were in use so that they can strip all the culture from these indigenous kids and make them adapt to the new modern culture Euro-Canadian lifestyle. These kids were being tortured if they spoke their language. They were physically and sexually abused daily. Most of the indigenous folks are still scarred from these past tragedies. -
Canada's new flag
In the time of 1921, Canada was introduced to their new flag. The red represents England and the white represents France. Canada should was proud of what they've become after the war. The flag represented a new time in where peace would be present. -
The Balfour Report
The Balfour report declared Britain and it's allies equal. Which meant Canada was finally an independent nation united with Britain. -
The persons case
The persons case was a ruling given to the right of women to be appointed to the senate. This motivated other women to speak up for their gender. It was a major turning point for women because they were now considered there own persons with their own rights.
