  • Plankalkul

    Plankalkul was designed by Konrad Zuse to do algebra and other types of math. Plankalkul means "formal system for planning".
  • FORTRAN

    FORTRAN was created by John Backus in 1957 for numeric calculations. FORTRAN stands for Formula Translating System.
  • MATH-MATIC

    MATH-MATIC was a programming language for UNIVAC I & II, created by Charles Katz and his team. MATH-MATICS doesn't stand for anything
  • LISP

    LISP, created by John McCarthy, stands for List Processing. LISP was created for mathmatical notation of programs.
  • COBOL

    CoBOL stands for Common Buisness-Oriented Language. It was created by Grace Hopper and several others that made several remakes over the years. CoBOL was designed and made for buisness use. CoBOL is now an OOP language
  • BASIC

    BASIC stands for Beginner's All-purpose Symbolic Instruction Code. It was created in 1964 by John Green Kemendy and Thomas Eugene Kurtz. It was created to allow people in fields other than math and science to use computers.
  • Logo

    Logo was created by Wally Feurzeig and Seymore Papert to be an educational programming language. Logo doesn't stand for anything.
  • B

    B was created by Ken Thompson and Dennis Ritchie who both worked at Bell Labs. B was created for minicomputer, as most program languages needed too much memory. It was called B because it was the second programming language they ever created.
  • Pascal

    Pascal was named after a french mathmatition named Blaise Pascal. Pascal was designed by Niklaus Wirth to encourage good programming practices.
  • C

    C is called C because it was the third programming language that Dennis Ritchie wrote, right after B. It was meant for general purpose, and is now one of the most common languages in existance.
  • ML

    ML was created by Robin Milner as a general purpose programming language. ML stands for METALANGUAGE.
  • SQL

    SQL was created by Donald Chamberlin as a language used to create and manage databases. SQL stands for Structured Query Language.
  • ADA

    Created by Jean Ichbiah, remade by Tucker Taft in 1995 and 2005. Ada was made for use in imbedded and real time systems. Ada was named after Ada Lovelace, the first programmer. After the remake of Ada, it turned into an object oriented programming language
  • C++

    C++ was named as it was because the creator, Bjarne Stroustrup, wanted a more flexable of C, so he named it C++. C++ is designed for system programming, even though it can do other things.
  • Delphi (Object pascal)

    Delphi was created by Apple, Niklaus Wirth, and Anders Hejlsberg. Delphi was created for and IDE called Embarcadero Delphi. Delphi doesn't stand for anything
  • Python

    Python was created Guido van Rossum to maximize how readable code is. Python doesn't stand for anything.
  • Visual Basic

    Visual Basic was created by Microsoft to promote the creation of third party and open source softwares to boost the number of applications available to their system. Visual Basic does not stand for anything
  • Java

    Java was created by James Gosling to be a lauguage that could run on any system without regard to the hardware or framework. Java doesn't stand for anything.
  • Javascript

    Javascript was made by Bredan Eich to be used in webpage building and server programming (node.js). Javascript does not stand for anything.
  • PHP

    PHP was designed by Rasmus Lerdorf as a website server development language. PHP stands for Personal Home Page.
  • RPG

    IBM developed RPG for buisness applications. RPG stands for Report Program Generator.
