  • Harry S. Truman

    Harry S. Truman
    Harry S. Truman started out as a senetor and became famous for exposing wartime fraud and corruption. He became president after the death of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Truman was responsible for dropping the atomic bombs on Japan and ending the war. He also started the Marshall Plan which helped to rebuild post-war Europe.He was elected to a second term in 1949.
  • Doris Day

    Doris Day was a singer and actor who got her break with the Les Paul Band at the age of 16. Her first movie appearence was in a film called "Romance on the High Streets" which was produced by Warner Brothers Pictures, a company which continues to produce movies today. (Warner Brothers is commonoly known today for producing the "Harry Potter" series.)
  • Richard Nixon

    Richard Nixon began as a politician working hard during the Cold War to weed out spies and cumminism. His career advanced with his efforts in breaking the Albert Hiss spy case, which brought evidence supporting the allegations that Albert Hiss was a Soviet spy.He won the Vice Presidency with Dwight Eisenhower in 1952, and later became the President in 1969.
  • Joe Dimaggio

    Joe Dimaggio was a famous baseball player who was first seen in the major leagues up against big names such as Lou Gehrig. He helped bring home 9 World Series titles for the Yankees and in 1949 was the highest paid baseball player on record. In 1949 Dimaggio signed a $100,000 contract (today would =almost $1,000,000). His contract broke the record for highest paid player in history. He earned this contract through his many World Series Championships and for setting the record for most home runs.

    "Red China" AKA People's Republic  Of China
    Mao Zedong announces the age of china as the "People's Republic of China". It was a post World War II, Communist China which was also known as "Red China" in referenbce to it's communist status. This new communist China entered the Korean War, in defense of it's fellow communist Korea. They entered at a time when the United Nations were ready and able to defeat North Korea
  • Joe McCarthy

    Joe McCarthy
    Joe McCarthy was a U.S. Republican Senator who served for 10 years from 1947-57. In 1950 he fueled the fires of the Cold War by committing himself to the anti-communist agenda. His practices became known as "Mcarthyism", which today is seen as wreckless paronia. McCarthy was well known for making extreme and unfounded claims that many citizens were communist supporters or sympathizers.
  • Walter Winchell 1930-1950

    Walter Winchell 1930-1950
    Walter Winchell was a jewish journalist who began his career in late 1929. At the time he was knwon for his gossip columns which were said to "make or break" an actor or show. By 1930 Winchell had devloped a large audience and with the events of World War I and II erupting, Winchell was one of the first Jewish news casters to speak out against Adolf Hitler.
  • Studebaker Car

    Studebaker Car
    Studebaker was a company which produced some of the first cars in 1852 and continued through 1963. The cars were well known for being reliable and of very good quality which made them popular in the auto industry. The company survived the Depression by creating a car that was of low cost to make and sell to patrons. They later produced cars and trucks for the war effort and even post-war provided a car that symbolized classic americana.
