    On September 8, 1784, Mother Ann Lee dies, which leaves Joseph Meacham and Lucy Wright as the church's leaders. While they were in charge, the Shaker communities established a few customs.

    During the Civil War, a draft law is placed to help the fight. Since the Shakers are pacifists, they refuse to fight in the war. Therfore, an elder decides to travel to Washington, where Lincoln exempts them from the battle.

    Shakers churches begin a search for new members. Male members begin to leave the Shaker communities, because they are excited by the economic boom.

    The Shaker communities began to leave, so even less members remain in the communities. Some communitites are completely abandoned, leaving no one behind.

    Soon, only a few members of Shaker communities remained, leaving about only 12 members. At the time, "The Shakers" film is made.

    Many of the Shaker's furniture is inspirational for people today. Desginers are still inspired by the work of the Shakers, which helps them create more furniture of the 21st centruy. Also, many former Shaker communities are transformed into museums, like the community in New Lebanon, New York.
