  • John F Kennedy Born

    The 35th president. Assassinated later on, and was in comman during the Cuban Missle Crisis.

    An American pilot who piloted to spy plane over the Soviet airspace, but was shot down which caused the 1960 U-2 indicent.

    Former member of the United States Special Forces and retired Master Sergeant. Received the Medal of Honor for actions in South Vietnam.

  • Iron Curtain

    A national border separating the former Soviets from the West due to the decline of Communism.
  • Cold War

    A war that put us in a race for most nuclear weapons with Russia. No major battles were fought.
  • Truman Doctrine

    Harry Truman said the US would give: political, military and economic assistance to all democratic countries under attack from any dictatoring forces
  • Containment Policy

    US policy to prevent the spread of Communism. This policy was mainly implemented because of the Soviets post WWII
  • Marshall Plan Signed

    When America helped europe by donating $13 billion ($160 billion in today's value) to rebuild various European economies after WWII
  • Berlin Airlift Began

    After WWII when Germany was split, the Soviets blocked off anything allied-related on the ground (Like canals and railways) from reaching Berlin. The Airlift was when the US would bring food and supplies by airfract for the people of Berlin.
  • McCarthyism

    Allowed the use of unfair claims of someone doing something illegal and investigations.
  • Domino Theory

    A Theory that if something happens politically in one country, it'll occur in another country. Example: One country becoming Communist.
  • Korean War

    A war between Communist North Korea and South Korea, the North trying to take the South side. The US interfears sides with South Korea due to their Containment Policy, and Chine sides with the North
  • Rosenberg Trial

    A trial against Ethel and Julius Rosenberg, where they were accused of selling nuclear secrets to the Russians.
  • Vietnam War

    (Can be known as the Second Inochina War)
    A war to prevent Communist North from taking South Vietnam. The first war America lost politically, withdrawing their forces and having the North win.
  • Cuban Missile Crisis

    Pretty much 13 days of Solid panic as Russia had nuclear missiles placed in Cuba, which could easily destroy a wide range of America with little time to evacuate it's citizens.
  • Great Society

    A program during Lyndon Johnson that sponsered social welfare programs (For returning soldiers mainly)
  • Gulf of Tonkin Resolution

    The authorization for President Johnson to take any actions he believed necessary to counter and to promote the maintenance of international peace and security in southeast Asia.
  • Anti-War Movement

    A movement by the public via the Vietnam war. Many of the US citizens were against fighting in the war, which is why the US lost politically and left Vietnam.
  • Tet Offensive

    A series of attacks by the Communist enemy in the Vietnam War. Some troops zeized major cities their New Years day (when no one was supposed to fight) which was called 'Tet'
  • Vietnamization

    Policy Richard Nixon administered during the vietnam war. It withdrew the US soldiers from Vietnam so they could fight their own war.
