  • Pokemon Red, Green, and Blue

    These were the first games in the main series to be released. Pokemon Red and Green were first released in Japan in late February and Pokemon Red and Blue were released everywhere else later in the year. Generation: 1

  • Pokemon Yellow

    This was the next installment in the first generation of the main series, which was essentially the same as Red and Blue with a few few story element and gameplay mechanic changes. Generation: 1

  • Pokemon Gold and Silver

    This was the beginning of the second generation of main series Pokemon games. It included a new region to explore and brand new Pokemon to catch. Generation: 2

  • Pokemon Crystal

    The second installment of generation 2 in the main series Pokemon games. Much like Pokemon Yellow, it was essentially a rehashing of the previous games with different story elements and improved game mechanics. Generation: 2

  • Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire

    The first titles in generation 3 of the main series Pokemon games. These games brought a new region, new Pokemon, and drastic changes to the game mechanics. Generation: 3

  • Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen

    These games interrupted the usual pattern by introducing the first remakes of already released titles. These games were updated versions of Pokemon Red, Green, and Blue, featuring better graphics, new gameplay mechanics, and compatibility with other more recent Pokemon games. Generation: 1

  • Pokemon Emerald

    Following suit with the previous generations, this game was a rehashing of the previous titles with improved game mechanics, new story elements, and even some new Pokemon. Generation: 3
