Jan 18, 1753

George Washington describes the value of the Forks of the Ohio to the governor of Virginia.

George Washington Was Explaining his self in a meeting. In the meeting they we're talking about the forks of ohio.

Feb 18, 1754

French kick out the Virginians who have begun building at the Forks. French build Fort Duquesne.

The first fort that was built was Fort Duquesne. But to build they had to kick out the Virginians out of their homes.

Feb 18, 1758

Forbes calls the area at the location of the three rivers “Pittsborough” after William Pitt, British Prime Minister.

The city first got it's name. The first name was called Pittsborough after William Pitt.

Mar 18, 1758

Gen. Forbes wins for British at Ft. Duquesne. French destroy the fort.

The French destroy the first fort called Fort Duquesne. Then they made a plan map of Fort Pitt.

Feb 18, 1776

Washington and Guyasuta make a treaty at Forks of the Ohio.

Pittsburgh Gazette founded by John Scull, 1st newspaper west of the Alleghenies

Pittsburgh becomes a city; Major Ebenezer Denny is 1st Mayor

This is a picture of the first mayor of Pittsburgh. He was a young smart man and he was controlling our state in a good lead. He was a young man when he was first started he was in his late twenty’s.

Great Fire destroys much of the city and leaves 12,000 residents homeless

This is a picture of the after effect of the Great Fire that happen on the south side of Pittsburgh that was Birmingham at the time. This fire contains 24 blocks and there were 12,000 people homeless after this event.

Martin R. Delany Harvard medical graduate

He went to harvard to help they people who where sick to get better but the whites kicked him out because he was black.

Dec 16, 1846

Martin R. Delany wrote the Mystery

He wrote "The Mystery" to tell how blacks were gettin treated and how whites where racist. He wanted to get his point across about how everyone needs to be treated equally.
