There is many forms of security practices that pilots take, lock up, look out, and just keep an ear out and as for their safety some have officers.

Pilots have more jobs than just flying the plane. They do things like monitor the instruments, keep the navigation/fuel log, make position reports to oceanic control, and receive weather updates.

Work for airlines, the military, tour companies, governments, and charter companies. Some even are self-employed. Often spend many days or weeks away from home. Work anywhere form six plus hours a day. Overnight, weekend, and holiday work are common.
