    Charles Darwin, 1809-1882 – Voyage of H.M.S. Beagle
    Charles Darwin volunteers as an attendant on a Navy vessel. He was a survey member on a 2-year mission mapping and surveying uncharted waters surrounding South America. He was requested to augment the missions that previously did not have an accompanying scientist. Darwin was able to study during the trip while staying the ship’s library.

    Charles Darwin published On the Origin of Species, which focuses on his evolutionary theory and that of Natural Selection. His focus was on the idea that those samples of a species who exhibit traits that are not conducive to a particular environment, that trait is eliminated through natural selection and fails to live on, thereby, the dominant trait survives and is passed on into further generations.
