  • Farragut Boat Club

    Harvard and Yale Students used af boxing glove was used as a soft ball inside a boxing club gym. The original idea was indoor baseball.
  • Firemen Grew the Game (Kitten Ball)

    As a way to stay active during their down time, they expanded the game throughout the firefighter profession. They made a team named the Kitten's and it was then called Kitten Ball.
  • Diamond Ball

    The name was changed from Kitten Ball to Diamond ball by the Minneapolis Park Board.
  • The name Softball

    Walter Hakanson was a YMCA official and former ASA president and he came up with the name softball.
  • World's Fair in Chicago

    Fischer and Pauley organized the first tournament gathering 55 teams together. There were 3 divisions. Fastballers, slow pitch, and women.
  • ASA

    Amateur Softball Association wasn't recognized until now.
  • International Women's Professional Softball Leauge

    Now there was an professional softball league. It lasted 4 years.
  • Olympics

    Softball was played for the first time in the Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia.
  • National Pro Fastpitch

    Another shot at a professional league was started.
  • Softball taken out of the Olympics

    After 2008, softball was taken out of the Olympics.
  • Softballs Return to the Olympics

    Softball will return to the olympics for the first time since 2008.
