  • The Beginning

    The Beginning
When I think of books I automatically go back to the very beginning. My mom used to read to me and my brothers every night before bed. She would let us choose the books and read the whole thing to us. We loved all different types of books so we always enjoyed any type of book.
  • Book Fairs

    Book Fairs
The book fairs for us were great every year. At my elementary they would hire an authors every year to come read to the students at my school. After the authors read to us they would give us a copy of their book. That was huge in my development in reading because I was always so amazed that real authors took the time to read to us so I became very fascinated with books.
  • Mr. Roth (4th Grade)

    Mr. Roth (4th Grade)
My 4th grade teacher Mr. Roth had a huge influence on me when it came to my reading development. He used to read to the whole class every Thursday. What I Liked most about the way he read to us is that he always let us participate, so we was not just sitting there doing nothing. He used to read books, articles, poems, and anything else that he thought would keep us interested.
  • Reading out loud

    Reading out loud
Around this time is when things started getting a little difficult for me. Reading out loud was hard for me because I had speech problems. I would stutter a lot and it made me really nervous to read in front of my fellow classmates. Sometimes I would get laughed at so it made me very uncomfortable to read out loud.
  • Text Books

    Text Books
When I started middle school is when we really started using textbooks. At that time I thought that textbooks were amazing. I loved the fact that in the back of every book is a glossary. My English teacher used to make us pick 10 words from every chapter and write out the definitions on paper. I learned so much in this period of my life because I saw words that weren’t used on a daily basis so I my vocabulary really expanded.
  • Essays

    Essays
At first I thought essays were the evil of all evil. I hated having to write 2 and 3 page papers. I didn’t understand how writing on topics that I was not interested in was going to help me develop my literacy skills. It all changed when I sat down with one of my middle school counselors. She told me that writing is a way to express yourself on paper, and that find topics that are eye opening to you, and that changed my outlook on writing. I am big football fan so a lot of my early writing topic
  • High School English

    High School English
As I was getting started in high school English was slowly becoming my favorite subject. At my high school we read so many books and that helped me more than anything. Being able to read by yourself on your own time was perfect for me. I didn’t read that well in front of people so getting to take books home and read at my own pace helped me more than anything else in my development.
  • Of Mice and Men

    Of Mice and Men
Now I am sure that most people read Of Mice and Men at some point in high School. This Book was by far my favorite read at any Point in High school. Up until this point I found reading very boring. I don’t know exactly what caught my attention about the story line of this book but I just remember not being able to put this book down. After we read this book we got to watch the movie in class, and I realized that sometimes the books have more information than the movies. I realized that not all
  • The SAT Test

    The SAT Test
Studying to take My SAT was defiantly a stressful time in my life. The SAT was defiantly at that point in my life was the hardest test I have ever taking. The pressure of passing it defiantly was a burden on me. At this point it was all on me to remember everything I have learned over the years and use that knowledge on this one test. This test was a huge stepping stone to continue my growth in learning.
  • My College Years

    My College Years
When I got to college I was a bit nervous that I wouldn’t be quite smart enough to make it through. I quickly realized that I was able to use all the little things I learned in High school. I had great teachers that I Learned so much from and I was able to apply it to most assignment in college. Our literacy timeline will never stop. As people we learn something new every single day and that is the key to success.
