  • Teddy Roosevelt becomes president

    Teddy Roosevelt becomes president
    Born into a wealthy family and down the road started his life at harvard later on became president. He was a very outdoorsy person. He was said to be one of the best presidents. Teddy was the 26th president.
  • Panama Canal

    Panama Canal
    France first started working on the Canal in 1881 but had to stop due to engeneering issues and illness. US took over the job in 1904. It is a ship canal to shorten the distance of ship travel. When it was first built it was $352 million, and today its $7.5 billion.
  • The Jungle

    The Jungle
    The Jungle was a novel written about the disgusting thruth of the meat industries taken place in Chicago and other large cities. Written by Upton Sinclair. Because the book was written and all the dirty secrets about the food companys were told and proven, the drug and health administration was created.
  • World War I Begins

    World War I Begins
    World War I began on July 28, 1914, when Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia. This seemingly small conflict between two countries spread rapidly: soon, Germany, Russia, Great Britain, and France were all drawn into the war, largely because they were involved in treaties that obligated them to defend certain other nations. Western and eastern fronts quickly opened along the borders of Germany and Austria-Hungary.
  • Prohibition

    Prohibition
    A legal act to prohibit transportation storage and sale of alcohol. They did this to try and end crimes, strengthen families, and improve the National character. Alcohol was said to be Americas National Curse. This was the 18th amendment.
  • Woman Suffrage

    Woman Suffrage
    Lucy Stone and The Woman's Rights Convention organized campaigns in several states. This was the 20th amendment. The impact was that woman always have a say just as men do.
  • First Winter Olympics

    The First Winter Olympics were held in Chamonix, France on January 25, 1924. The U.S. had a total of 4 over all points.
  • St. Valentin's Day Massacre

    On February 14, 1929, the St. Valentin's Day Massacre happened in Chicago. This is an event that Al Capone was behind but it was never fully proven.
  • The Great Depression

    The Great Depression started around September 4, 1929 but was not known by the public until October 29, 1929(also known as Black Tuesday). It all started because the stock market crashed.
  • Prohibition Ends

    On April 7, 1933 the 21st Amendment was made and repealed the 18th Amendment. This ment that the sales, distribution, and possession of alcohol was once again legal.
  • The Hindenburg

    The Hindenburg
    The Hindenburg was a hot aircraft that went down on May 6, 1937. When it went down 35 people were killed.
  • Beginning of WW2

    Beginning of WW2
    On September 1, 1939, the Nazis started to invaid Poland. By September 7, 1939, they were only 25 miles outside of Warsaw and 10 days later Poland surrenderd.
  • Japan Attacks Pearl Harbor

    Japan Attacks Pearl Harbor
    The Japanese High Command carefully discussed this and came up with the conclusion that the Dutch East Indies would be the best place to gain resources. But they knew that an attack on the Dutch East Indies would probably bring the US into the war. So they had to find a way to prevent the US from fighting with them until they conquered the Dutch East Indies. That's when they planned Pearl Harbor. The goal of Pearl Harbor was to disable the American fleet for a few months to give them enough time
  • U.S. Bombs Japan

    U.S. Bombs Japan
    The U.S. was trying to end WWII and make Japan surrender. Japan refused, the U.S. threatened to drop a nuclear bomb, but Japan called it a bluff. on August 6th, 1945, we dropped an atomic bomb on Heroshima. Japan still refused to surrender. 3 days later, on August 9th, we dropped another on Nagasaki. Japan then surrendered.
  • Baby Boomers

    Baby Boomers are people born during Post-World War II. After WWII was over, a lot of the men came home from war, received their G.I. Bill and started having families. 76 million American children were born between the years 1946-1964. This era will have a huge impact on use today. This generation will shortly be retiring and collecting Social Security.

    Cold War Begins
    The Cold War was a tense relationship between the U.S. and the Soviet Union that occured at the end of WWII. The Treaty of Versailles as the boiling point that pushed Joseph Stalin and the United States to the threat of nuclear war. Unlike any other war, the two sides never clashed directly into battle.
  • Korean War

    Korean War
    From 1950-1953, the United States was involved in the Korean War. In 1950, Communist North Korea invaded South Korea trying to unite the two countires. Due to the Containment Policy, the US became involved to try to prevent the spread of communism. The US and South Korea was successful in the process. North and South Korea are now divided at the 38th parallel. North Korea still remains communsit to this day.
  • Brown vs. Board of Education

    Brown vs. Board of Education
    Brown vs. Board of Education of Topeka Kansas was a landmark decision of the Supreme Court, declares state laws establishing separate public schools for black and white students and denying black children equal educational opportunities unconstitutional. This opened the door to desegregate schools across the United States. This had a major impact on the years to come regarding Civil Rights.

    failed military invasion of Cuba undertaken by the CIA-sponsored paramilitary group Brigade 2506 on 17 April 1961. A counter-revolutionary military, trained and funded by the United States government's Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), Brigade 2506 fronted the armed wing of the Democratic Revolutionary Front (DRF) and intended to overthrow the revolutionary left-wing government of Fidel Castro. Launched from Guatemala, the invading force was defeated within three days by the Cuban armed forces,

    Berlin Wall
    The Berlin Wall was a barrier constructed by the German Democratic Republic. completely cut off West Berlin from surrounding East Germany and from East Berlin. The barrier included guard towers placed along large concrete walls, which over looked a wide area later known as the death strip that contained anti-vehicle trenches, "fakir beds" and other defenses.

    After reviewing newly acquired intelligence, President John F. Kennedy informed the world that the Soviet Union was building secret missile bases in Cuba, a mere 90 miles off the shores of Florida.     On January 20,1981 Ronald Reagan became America's 40th president.He announced that the "government is not the soultion to our problems; government is the problem", he hoped that America would once again see hope for those that did not have freedom. Reagan survived an assassination attempt only 69 days after taking office, he quickly recovered and returned to duty. During his two-term he cut taxes, increased defense spending by 35 percent, and helped bring a quicker end to the Cold War.
  • First Woman on the U.S. Supreme Court

    First Woman on the U.S. Supreme Court
    July 7, 1981 President Ronald Reagan nomiated Sandra Day O'Connor to be first woman on the U.S. Supreme Court. On september 25 Sandra was officially sworn in and took her place in the U.S. Supreme Court. O'Connor served from 1981-2006.

    The House of Representatives approved two articials of impeachment against President Bill Clinton. He was charged for lying under oath in a federal grand jury and obstructing justice. Clinton had an affair with Monica Lewinsky who was an unpaid intern at the White House. He was also charged with sexual harassment charges for harassing Paula Jones in a hotel suite in Little Rock, Arkansas.
  • Columbine

    Columbine
    April 20,1999 two students in Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado planted bombs and open fired on other students in their schools. The students names were Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris. The boys plans were to kill hundreds of people but didnt succeed because their bombs didn't explode. However they did kill twelve students and one teacher before taking their own lives. This was the first student shooting in the U.S. so it shocked to the whole country.
  • 9/11 Attack

    9/11 Attack
    On September 11, 2001 19 al-Qaeda hijacked four airplains and carried out suicide attacks against targets in the United States. The first two planes were flown into the world trades center in New York City, the third plane hit the Pentagon right outside Washington D.C., and the fourth plane crashed in a feild in Pennsylvannia, 3,000 people or more were killed in New York City and Washington D.C.
