  • Against Method

    Against Method
Against Method was Freyerbend’s theory that went against the scientific method in a way. He made the argument that there wasn't one simple method but that there are multiple methods that can be used. This is also explained by Freyerabend by arguing that in order for scientific research to be successful, the research can't conform by the ideals and rules set in place by philosophers. By arguing this, his stand point was that philosophy of science should remain close to that of practicing science.

    Science in a Free Society
Science in a Free Society is Freyerabend’s next installment, but it’s actually just a book of all the articles he wrote in response to the critics of his theory Against Method. In this book, he basically berates the reviewers by accusing them of not understanding what he was stating. He also accuses them of being unable to distinguish between irony and playfulness when the book itself is full of irony.

Freyerabend held a tenure at Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule, Zurich. It is reported that this was his favorite academic position held. He actually ended up applying for this job because Eric Jantsch told him that the school was looking for a philosopher of science.

    Farwell to Reason
After he got criticism from his previous work, he retreated from the frontline as he was already reluctant to share his upfront thoughts with the media. With that being said, he remained a professor and continued to publish and teach. It was 12 years after his controversial article was published that Farewell to Reason came into the light. Freyerabend stated that cultures should be left alone to themselves to act and live according to their own beliefs without the influences of other cultures.
