  • Early life

    In his youth, Paul was enamored with music and theater playing multiple instruments and performing in choirs and operas. Upon graduating high school in 1942 he was drafted into the labor service and later into the army. In 1945 it was during his time in the service that he was shot in his spine causing him to need a cane for the rest of his life.
  • Time in Vienna

    After the war, Feyerabend went to Vienna, Austria where he studied history, sociology, mathematics, science, and astronomy. He was offered an assistant theater job but turned it down. Through this job offer, he could acquaint himself with other prominent figures in philosophy such as Victor Kraft, Ludwig Wittgenstein, and Karl Popper. In 1951 Paul earned his degree in astronomy and his Ph.D in philosophy.
  • Ph.D

    Paul earned his Ph.D. in his dissertation on the observational statement written in the article: An Attempt at a Realistic Interpretation of Experience. He explained here that scientific beliefs that can't be explained in words must be related to our worldly experiences. He earned his Doctorate working under the supervision of Karl Popper.
  • Feyerabend disagrees with Popper

    Paul Feyerabend strays away from Karl Popper by disagreeing with his theory of falsifiability by implying that science and pseudo-science are indistinguishable.
