    On Junoir's firsy day of high school he is very excited - untill he gets a look at his geometry text book. It is the same one his mother used 30 years before.

    Junior decides that he must leave the reservation and go to the white high school if he is to have any hope for a decent future.

    At Reardan (Junoir's new school) he enconters bullying, racism, and alienation at first.

    Back at the rez Junior encounters racism from his own people. They consider him a white lover or a 'want to be white.'
  • Basketball

    Junior's strong personality is winnig him friends and acceptance at Reardan. He joins the basketball team and is supported by his teamates when he is harrassed by the other Indians at an away game on the rez. Rowdy gives Junior a concussion during the game and Reardan loses.

    Just as things are looking up for Junoir three deaths in and around his family send him into bouts of depression. Junior's father's best friend, his older sister, and his grandmother are all killed in alcoholism related events.

    With the support of his family and new friends at Readan, Junior rises above his grief and becomes the ralling point for the Readan basketball team. They beat the reservation team by a large margin.
  • Reconciliation with Rowdy

    Reconciliation with Rowdy
    In the end, Junior and Rowdy revive their friendship. Although there is little hope for Rowdy's future, Junior retains what is best in his Indian culture while looking foward to a 'nomadic' and hopeful life beyond the reservation.
