Birth
Oprah was born on a fam in Kosciusko, Mississippi. Her parents were abusive and did not live together. She grew up under her grandmothers watch. Her best friends were the farm animals, cows, goats, and chickens. Her name was supposed to be Orpah, but do to pronunciation errors and difficulty , she was known as Oprah most of her life. -
Had a baby
Oprah was sexually abused by her cousin and two other family members which resulted in a pregnancy. At age 14 Oprah had her baby, Canaan, meaning "new land, new life." Canaan was born prematurely and passed away a few weeks after his birth in the hospital. -
News anchor
Oprah became the youngest news anchor and the first black female news anchor. Oprah said that her grandmother, who took care of her, encouraged her to peruse her career. Oprah’s grandmother always helped her in getting to where she wanted in life. She was supportive when Oprah became WJZ’s new co-host of several local talk shows. -
The Color Purple
Along with being an amazing communicator, Oprah was also an actor. She had a role in the movie "The Color Purple." A movie about racism, Oprah was Sofia. Sofia does not back down from fights and stands up for herself like no other. Much like how Oprah is even today. -
“Marriage”
Oprah “married” Stedman Graham at age 32. Graham was 35, he is a businessperson, author and educator. Their wedding was supposed to happen but never did. Oprah says she thought he was a player at first and didn’t think they would last if they got married. Oprah and Stedman are still together to this day. -
Oprah Winfrey Show
Oprah started her own show, called the Oprah Winfrey Show. It was a talk show, and Oprah talked about racism, her own personal traumatic experiences, she would bring in famous guests, talk about how to have confidence and self love as well. -
Awards
The Oprah Winfrey Show won three ‘Daytime Emmy Awards’. The following year, it won an additional ‘Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Talk Show’. Oprah’s show was very successful in many ways. Her show potentially benefited her viewers more than it did herself. -
Guest on the Late Show with David Letterman
Oprah was a guest on the 'Late Show with David Letterman', which some of the viewers said was the 'television event of the decade'. Everything Oprah is apart of, people love. When she is a guest, the host, or directing, people love everything she does. -
Oprah Winfrey Show last aired
The Oprah Winfrey Show was last aired on its last and final 25th season. She had a weekly 44 million viewers and the show is what made her blow up. It was ranked as the 19th greatest TV show of all time. -
Oprah now
Oprah will be 66 on January 29th. Throughout her time of being an actor and having her talkshow, Oprah became rich and famous. She now owns a house near Santa Barbra that cost $2.3 million, and a couple of dozen homes currently on the market with asking prices over $10 million. In 2001 she moved into a house costing $50 million. It has 14 bathroom, 40 acres, 6 bedrooms, and is 23,000 square feet.
