  • The automobile

    The Stanley Motor Carriage Company was an American manufacturer of steam-engine vehicles; it operated from 1902 to 1924. This was the start to the automobile and changed transportation for americans. No longer did everyone need a horse and buggy to get places.
  • Radio in America

    Broadcasting in america started in 1909 but became widespread through the 1920's and 1930's. Radio was used to pass on orders and communications between armies and navies on both sides in World War I and also for communication of the country, especially to rural areas of America.
  • The Great Migration

    The Great Migration was the movement of 6 million African Americans out of the Southern United States to the Northeast, Midwest, and West from 1910 to 1970. They migrated to work in the factories while the workers were serving in World War I, at first.
  • 18th Amendment

    The Eighteenth Amendment of the United States Constitution established prohibition in the United States. This brought along more crime and gangs. It also negatively impacted the economy because people were traveling elsewhere or buying liquor illegal from other coutries.
  • The 19th Amendment

    The 19th amendment gave women the right to vote. This changed women and impowered them and their rights continued to grow.
  • Emergency Quota Act

    The Emrgency Quota Act restricted immigration into the United States. It was an important turning-point in American immigration policy because it added numerical limits on immigration from Europe and the use of a quota system for establishing those limits. Without it too many people would have immigrated here from Europe and it would have hurt the economy.
  • Immigration Act of 1924

    The Immigration Act of 1924 was a United States federal law that limited the annual number of immigrants who could be admitted from any country to 2% of the number of people from that country who were already living in the United States in 1890. This helps slow and moderate Immigration to reduce over population and drain in the economy.
  • Televison

    The television has been commercially available since the late 1920's. The television brought america closer together and elections began being broadcasted.
  • Black Tuesday

    Stock Market Crash of 1929 was the most devastating stock market crash in the history of the United States. The crash signaled the beginning of the 10-year Great Depression that affected all Western industrialized countries and did not end in the United States until 1947.
  • Black Thursday

    The week after Black Tuesday when the stock market crashed even further.
  • Telephone in America

    The telephone began being used in households in the 1930's and changed the way americans communicate. there was less of a demand to use mail now.
  • Hoover Dam Constructed

    Hoover Dam is a concrete arch-gravity dam in the Black Canyon of the Colorado River, on the border between the US states of Arizona and Nevada. It created many jobs for americans as it was being built and helped boost the economy.
  • Franklin D Roosevelt elected president

    Franklin D Roosevelt was one of the best presidents of the United States and did a lot to improve the economy and fix the great depression.
  • 21st Amendment

    The 21st amendment repealed prohibition and alcohal became legal. Crimegoes down and the economy goes up.
  • GI Bill of Rights

    The GI Bill of Rights was a law that provided a range of benefits for returning World War II veterans. Benefits included low-cost mortgages, loans to start a business or farm, cash payments of tuition and living expenses to attend college, high school or vocational education, as well as one year of unemployment compensation. This inspired people to get a higher education and boosted up the economy.
