    GAVE THE RIGHT TO VOTE TO THE AFRICAN AMERICAN MALES ALLOWING BLACKS TO VOTE. EVEN THOUGH THERE WAS AN AMENDMENT ALLOWING BLACKS TO VOTE, THEY WERE STIL LARGELY UNABLE TO DO SO FOR ALMOST ANOTHER 100 YEARS. THE VOTING RIGHTS BILL OF 1965 GOT RID OF A LOT OF BSRRIERS TO EQUAL VOTING RIGHTS.

    COMMISIONS BY tHEODORE rOOSEVELT. HE CONSIDERED IT HIS GREATEST ACCOMPLISHMENT. THIS CHANGED THE WORLD BECAUSE IT CUT THE DISTANCE FROM THE PACIFIC TO THE ATLANTIC BY MONTHS.

    Hideki Tojo was in charge of the military and responsiblity for this. Declared war against Japan and started WWII. japan, Italy, and Germany were axis powers. The U,S., France, and Great Britain were the allies.

    Ordered the japanese Americans to be relocated to secure camps during WWII. Because of pearl Harbor, Franklin D Roosevelt thoughts the Japanese American were a threat to national security. Began to be released before the end of the war. They could also choose to join the military to get out of the camps. in 1980 every remaining person who was in the camp was given $20,000 for reperation.

    They bombed Hiroshima on August 6, 1945. That was the first bomb. Then Japan bombed Pearl Harbor which brought the U.S. into the war. 100,000 people were instantly killed and another 100.00 in the following days from radiation burned and cancer. President harry Tubman made the decision to use the bomb.

    SENT BY DWIGHT EISENHOWER. THE FEARED THAT IF VIETNAM BECAME COMMUNIST OTHER COUNTRIES WOULD FOLLOW (DOMINO EFFECT). THIS IS ATER THE U.S. HAD BEEN SUPPORTING THE FRENCH.

    LEE HARVEY OSWALD WAS BLAMED FOR THE ASSASSINATION BUT HE WAS KILLED BEFORE HE COULD STAND TRIAL. JFK WANTED TO WITHDRAW FROM VIETNAM AFTER SENDNG IN ADVISORS. HE STARTED THE CIVIL RIGHTS BILL. HE WAS ONLY CATHOLIC PRESIDENT

    President JFK sends first combat troops with intent to bring them home rapidly. Feared the domino effect. (the spreading of communism). The U.S. was never successful in this war - in the end 60,000 U.S. soldiers were dead and Vietnam became communist anyway.

    MLK was the leader of the civil rights movement. he gave his famous "i have a dream" speech march on washington in August of 1963. He was also a christian minister. he believed in non-violent protests civil disobedience. He wrote "letters to birmingham jail" trying to convince fellow minister to jointhe cause for civil rights.

    Richard Nixon is credited with ending this war. 2 years after the U.S. withdraws the north takes over the south and Vietnam because communist any way. About 60,000 U.S. soldiers die, the vast majority are under 19 years old.

    1979 - 1989 The U.S. supported rebels against the invading Soviets. One f the rebel groups eventually became Al Qaeda. Another example of how fear of comunism had long lasting unntended consequences. The rebels successfully drove the soviets out of Afghanistan.

    They said that Suddam Hussein must leave Kuwait by January 15th 1991 or be removed by forces. When Suddam didnt leave, this was the start of the persian gulf war. He invaded kuwait for all because he needed money to pay back his debt he incurred during Iraqs "8 year war" with Iran. Iraq believed Kuwait was actualloy part of Iraq.

    Begins operatings desert shields, because Hussein refuseed to withdraw from Kuwait. About a month long war. Kurds in Northern Iraq wanted help from the U.S. to get rid of Saddam hussein, but the U.S. decides not to.
