McMurphy comes to the ward
After McMurphy arrives to the ward, he tries to introduce him with a big smile. He tries to get know other people on the ward but he figures out that there are so many different type of people. -
The first meeting
While he is having the first meeting at the ward with Nurse Ratched, he recognizes that there is something wrong with this environment. Nurse Ratched keeps ask them to reveal their pains and McMurphy can't understand that -
Request to watch a football game on the ward
During the meeting, McMurphy spoke up his voice to request to watch a famous football game on the ward. However, Nurse Ratched told him that in order to watch it, more than half of people have to agree with the idea. Only 8 people raise their hands when 9 people have to agree with it. From this happening, readers can see that how Nurse Ratched wants to take control people on the ward. -
McMurphy tried to show his man power
Since McMurphy never could understand Nurse Ratched, he decided to prove that Nurse Ratched is just a normal woman. So he tried to show his man's power. Once nurse Ratched saw him in his towel and was stunned because he had no clothes on and he had no clothes to wear so the black boy had to go and get him some clothes. -
Fishing Trip
McMurphy got frustrated by Nurse Ratched of her behavior. He planned on going to a fishing trip secretly as a rebellion. Before McMurphy arrived to the ward, other inmates never thought of disobey Nurse Ratched. -
Chief finally spoke
Since McMurphy got to the ward, he thought that Chief is speach impaired person. However, it wasn't true at all. He didn't put his voice up because he got harasses while he was in reality. He decides to hide himself to protect himself. -
Invited two ladies over to the ward for Billy
McMurphy wanted Billy to give a freedom from his mother and his ex-girlfriend who Billy wanted to marry to. So, McMurphy secretly called his friends to come over to the ward. After they came, all of people on the ward had a party on the ward for the first time. Even security involved in them. -
Billy got caught by Nurse Ratched after he spent a night with Candy
Billy had to break up with his only girlfriend because he couldn't say 'marry me' to the girl. He stammers and he gets nervous whenever he has to talk to girls. After McMurphy figured out, he asked his friends to come over to the ward. One of the two women, Candy, spent the night with him. After that, Billy finally got freedom from woman. However, in the next moring, Nurse Ratched saw it, she told him that she is going to talk to his mom. Billy ended up having sucide himself. -
McMurphy had a lobotomy
Since he spoke his voice to Nurse Ratched and started to question her authority, Nurse Ratched believed that McMurphy is having a mental disorder. She just didn't want him to stop her to control others on the ward. Back that time, lobotomy was popular to people who were having a mental disorder. -
Chief kills McMurphy
After McMurphy came back to the ward, he lost his laugh, happiness. While McMurphy was having a hard time, Chief decided to let him go so that he can bring back his laugh, This last scene shows that what would happen to people if they loose their laugh. After Chief killed McMurphy, he broke window and ran away from the ward becasue he felt there is no anymore to him to stay on the ward.
