    Woodrow Wilsons Presidency Term

    Woodrow Wilson was president from March 4, 1913, till March 4, 1921. He led America through World War I and tried to keep the United States neutral, but he had to call upon Congress to declare war on Germany in 1917. He negotiated the Treaty of Versailles and crafted the League of Nations.

    The Cunard ocean liner RMS Lusitania was sunk on Friday, May 7, 1915, during the first world war. Germany waged submarine warfare against the United Kingdom, and the submarine sank the Lusitania which was heading from New York to Liverpool England.

    Jeannette Rankin becomes the first woman sworn into the United States Congress

    Jeannette Rankin of Montana becomes the first woman elected into congress, she is sworn into the house of representatives. She campaigned as a progressive in 1916 wanting to work for or a woman suffrage amendment and she emphasized social welfare issues.

    The Great Migration, which lasted 54 years (1916-1970), was also known as the "Black Migration". It was the movement of 6 million African-Americans out of the southern United States to the Northeast, Midwest, and West.

    The espionage act made it a crime for any person to disclose information intended to interfere with the US Army's or to promote the success of the United States enemies.
  • The Selective Service Act

    In 1917 congress passed the selective service act, which President Woodrow Wilson signed into law. The act required all men in the United States between the ages of 21 and 30 to register for the military.

    In November of 1917 leftists, revolutionaries who were led by Vladimir Lenin launched an almost bloodless coup against the Duma's government. Revolution created in 1923 when the Bolshevik establishment turned into the Soviet Union at the end of the Civil War.

    Schenck versus the United States was a landmark decision by the Supreme Court that concerned the enforcement of the espionage act of 1917 during World War I. The Supreme Court did not rule in favor of Schenck and sent him to jail.

The project itself was to honor some of the American presidents, presidents that are on the carving include George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Teddy Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln.
