They were run out of Weed because Lennie was accused of rape. -
Spend Night In Woods
They have to spend the night in the woods because they can't get to the plantation that day. -
They Hire On At The Plantation
The next day they hire on at the plantation. There they meet Candy, the old janitor without a right hand. He tells them to steer clear of Curley's Wife. -
They Meet Curley's Wife
They meet Curley's wife when she enters the bunkhouse supposedly looking for Curley. She is one of the main protagonists in the story. -
Candy Contributes Money
Candy overhears George talking to Lennie about their dream and says that he has 350 dollars that he would like to contribute if he could share the farm. -
They Kill Candy's Dog
Candy has an old dog that he loves, but nobody else does because he stinks and he's useless. They all vote to kill the dog. Carlson takes the dog out and shoots him in the back of the head. This event foreshadows the resolution of the story. -
Lennie and Curley Fight
Curley mistakenly thinks that Lennie is laughing at him, so he starts beating him. Then George talls Lennie to fight back, so Lennie does by crushing Curley's hand. The men then make up and alibi saying that Curley caught his hand in a machine. -
George Goes Into Town
George goes into town with the other men while Lennie stays behind and talks with Crooks, the stable-buck with a crooked back. The men talk and then Candy enters and they talk more. Then Curley's wife enters and they argue with her and tell her to go away, which she does eventually. -
Lennie Accidently Kills
Lennie is petting the puppy that Slim gave him, when he accidently kills it. Then Curley's wife comes in and starts talking to Lennie, telling him how she could have been a movie star. Then,
learning that Lennie loves touching soft things, she offers to let him touch her hair. Lennie does, but when she yells at him for mussing it up he gets frightened. He covers her mouth, then shakes her and accidently breaks her neck and kills her. He then runs to the place in the woods that they camped at. -
George Kills Lennie
When Candy finds Curley's wife, he tells George, and George is extremly sad, realizing that their dream will never com true. Curley finds her, and sets out to kill Lennie. George knows where Lennie went so he goes there, and shoots Lennie in the back of the head rather than let him die painfully. Only Slim realizes that he killed him out of love, and they both walk away sadly. -
