Father Haileab Mother Tsege Brothers Tewolde and Hntsa Sisters Mehret and Mulu. Mawi was born in 1976

Mawi Asgedom ( Selamawi Haileab Asgedom traveled with his family to a refugee camp in Umsagata at the age of three.

Now joined by Selamawi's half sister Mulu the family left for America to the city of Chicago in 1983. World Relief was the group that helped get them there.

After only two weeks in America the family moved once again to Wheaton.

The boys completed ESL English as a second language at Longfellow Elementary and then were accepted into the district 200 school system.

During junior high the boys worked cash jobs and Tewolde even started his own cleaning business well Selamawi worked making burgers and fries. Tewolde died by a drunk driver in highschool.

During the time left there was three groups fighting the Dergue army lead by the dictator Mengistu Haile Mariam and two rebel groups Jebha and Woyane.

Haileab was born in Seraye, Eritrea in 1934

He was known as hero and a savior in his home land but once they moved to America he started to deteriorate and came down with glaucoma and cataracts. He was twenty years older than Tsege.

Haileab's father died shortly after he was born. His mother got very sick so he moved to a monastery and lived with Coptic Christian monks. At age nine he left to go live with a relative where he basically became their servant.

Haileab eventually became wealthy. He became an advanced dresser basically a doctor. He opened his own clinic, his own pharmacy, his own general store, ad he had live stock by the hundreds.

His father was a kind and honest man. Always helping his people. He was also a great public speaker. He was killed while riding his bike by a drunk driver.

He had plenty of offers but ended up going to Harvard

Mawi graduated this program by the end of Second grade
