Oedipus is adopted by King Polybus and Queen Merope, making Oedipus the prince of Corinth.

Oedipus hears rumors and a drunk man telling him about being adopted by King Polybus and Queen Merope, so he leaves.

Travels to the Oracle saying he will kill his father/marry his mother. He thought of Polybus/Merope. He decides never to return to Corinth.

While traveling to Thebes, there was a fight and Oedipus ended up killing King Laius without knowing who he was.

He arrives in Thebes to solve a riddle from a Sphinx. He frees the people of Thebes, marries Jocasta, has children with her (4 total, two boys/two girls), and made King.

As a plague reigns over Thebes, the people ask and beg Oedipus to stop the plague. Oedipus sends Creon to the Oracle to find a solution.

Creon returns from the Oracle stating that the only way to stop the plague is by finding out who killed King Laius.

Tiresias is a blind prophet that had accurate predictions of the future. Tiresias says that the murderer of King Laius is Oedipus himself.

Jocasta tells him how Laius was killed on a three-way crossroad, he was also on that road. They sent out for the survivor of the attack.

A message from Corinth arrives in Thebes saying that Oedipus' "father" King Polybus has died and they need someone to rule.

The messenger includes that Oedipus will not sleep with his mother because he was adopted & that he was the shepherd who gave Oedipus away.

Oedipus sends for the shepherd that gave him away. Once found, he said that Jocasta is his mother and ordered the baby to be killed.

Jocasta locks herself in a room/hanging herself. He takes her down from the rope and stabs himself in the eye with her golden brooches.
